Thailand Mobilizes Flood Relief for Chiang Rai Villages
Flash flooding from heavy rains in Chiang Rai province has affected 50 households across two villages, prompting Thailand's government to mobilize forest protection officers and place all relief units on 24-hour standby.
On August 1, Minister Suchart Chomklin issued an urgent order to the Forestry Department on July 31 to mobilize forest protection officers to assist residents affected by flash flooding in Chiang Rai province, with 24-hour readiness assigned should conditions deteriorate. According to Forestry Department Director General Nikorn Sirrojjanant, at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 31, the Doi Chang wildlife protection unit was dispatched to aid flooding victims from continuous rainfall. The current situation has affected one village with river overflow, impacting 40 households, and another village along the Laos border with flooding affecting 10 households. The department has instructed all units in at-risk areas to maintain full personnel, equipment, and supplies on standby 24 hours a day. Minister Suchart emphasized that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment prioritizes public welfare in all disaster scenarios and has directed all affiliated agencies to coordinate relief efforts, monitoring, assistance, and area rehabilitation to ensure rapid and comprehensive aid to affected residents.
