Thailand Warned of Five-Day Heavy Rain Starting Tomorrow
Thailand’s Meteorological Department has issued a fourth heavy rain warning, forecasting intense rainfall and thunderstorms from October 9 to 13. The southern region is urged to take extra precautions, while other parts of the country will also experience unsettled weather. Residents are advised to stay alert for flash floods, strong winds and high seas, and to follow official updates.
The department said that from October 9 to 13 the country will experience unsettled weather, including thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas. On October 9 the eastern part of the Northeast, the East and the South will be affected. On October 10 the lower North, lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and its vicinity, the East and the South will see impact. On October 11 the lower North, Central region including Bangkok and vicinity, the East and the South. On October 12 and 13 only the South is expected to receive heavy rain. The unsettled conditions are due to a high-pressure system from China covering upper Thailand, a monsoon trough moving over the upper South and a continuing southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The public is warned of dangers from thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash flooding and runoff, especially in hilly areas near waterways and low‑lying zones. People should avoid open areas, large trees and weak billboards. In the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand waves may exceed two metres during thunderstorms; mariners are advised to check routes and navigate with caution, avoiding areas of active thunderstorms. For safety, residents should plan travel and activities carefully, follow updates from the Meteorological Department via its website http://www.tmd.go.th or phone numbers 0‑2399‑4012‑13 and 1182, available 24 hours a day. The next bulletin will be issued on October 9 at 05:00 local time.
