Thailand Warns 39 Provinces of Heavy Rain, Strong Winds
Thailand's Meteorological Department has warned 39 provinces of thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds and possible flash floods, with Bangkok and surrounding areas expecting rain over 70 percent of the area. The forecast for the next 24 hours indicates heavy to very heavy rain in the central, eastern and southern regions, while the north and northeast will see decreasing rainfall. Mariners are advised to avoid seas with waves over two metres due to thunderstorm activity.
Today's weather: Meteorological Department warns 39 provinces of thunderstorms, heavy rain covering 70 percent of Bangkok and vicinity, strong gusts, lightning, flash floods. Dated 11 Oct 2569, the 24‑hour forecast from the Meteorological Department says upper Thailand remains unsettled with thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy to very heavy rain in places, plus possible lightning. The South will see heavy to very heavy rain in some areas; the Northeast and North will see decreasing rain.
People are advised to guard against dangers from heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rain, which may trigger flash floods and forest runoff, especially on hillsides near watercourses and low‑lying areas prone to standing water.
This is because a high‑pressure system or cold air mass from China has extended over the North, Northeast and South China Sea, while easterly and southeasterly winds bring moisture from the South China Sea into the lower Northeast, eastern region and upper Gulf of Thailand, together with a monsoon trough lying across the Gulf and southern Thailand.
For the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, thunderstorm zones will generate waves higher than two metres; vessels should proceed with caution and avoid sailing in those areas.
