Tropical Storm Narra Brings Heavy Rain to 30 Thai Provinces

The Meteorological Department is monitoring tropical storm Narra and has identified 30 provinces under alert for heavy downpours affecting 60 percent of affected areas, with Bangkok and surrounding provinces also affected. As of August 24, 2025, the department forecasts thunderstorms and heavy rain in parts of the northern, central, and eastern regions during the next 24 hours due to a monsoon trough passing through upper northern Thailand and Laos, combined with tropical storm Narra near the Gulf of Tonkin and strong southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents in affected areas are warned to watch for dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall, which may cause flash flooding, flash floods, and overflowing riverbanks, particularly in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. In the upper Andaman Sea, wave heights are expected to reach 2-3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand will see wave heights around 2 meters, exceeding 2 meters during thunderstorms.
Sailors in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are advised to navigate with caution and avoid thunderstorm zones. Small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should remain ashore during this period. Tropical storm Narra is expected to move inland in the southern part of Guangxi Province, China, between August 24-25, 2025, and will not directly impact Thailand's weather.
