Two Ministries Partner on Sustainable Resource Management

Thailand's Natural Resources and Environment Ministry and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation held a signing ceremony on September 18, 2569 to announce a cooperation agreement on science, research, and innovation aimed at sustainable development of natural resources and the environment toward nature-positive goals.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoschchanan Wongswatdee and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin signed the memorandum, witnessed by senior officials from both agencies.

Minister Suchart stated the cooperation was guided by the royal initiative of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, who has championed marine conservation including coral reef protection and marine life restoration. He emphasized that managing natural resources and the environment requires scientific knowledge, research, technology, and innovation to address problems effectively and support ecosystem restoration, balanced resource use, and the transition to nature-positive development.

Deputy Prime Minister Yoschchanan said the Higher Education Ministry will connect academic expertise, researchers, research infrastructure, data, technology, and innovation from universities and research institutions to support the Natural Resources Ministry in developing science and research solutions to environmental challenges and translating findings into practical policy and field applications.

The cooperation covers strategic research supporting national priorities, joint planning and projects, development of demonstration areas or living labs to test and apply research and innovations in real-world settings, promotion of practical applications of research and technology, and capacity building for personnel in natural resources and environmental management with appropriate knowledge, skills, and experience to conserve, restore, and manage natural resources and the environment efficiently.
