Two Suspects Arrested in Thailand-Laos Gold Shop Robbery
Two men have been arrested in Laos's Bo Kaeo province for robbing a gold shop in Chiang Khong district, Chiang Rai, and stealing five trays of gold on August 4. The suspects fled on motorcycles to the Mekong River before being tracked down and apprehended during a joint Thai-Lao operation. Firearms were seized and both men are in custody facing robbery charges.
Police and military forces in Bo Kaeo province, Laos, have jointly conducted an operation to arrest two suspects in a gold shop robbery in Chiang Khong district, Chiang Rai province, and have seized weapons. According to reports, two male suspects armed with handguns stormed the Yaowarat gold shop located in a shopping mall in Chiang Khong district on August 4, making off with five trays of gold before fleeing on motorcycles and abandoning them near the Mekong River. Authorities coordinated with Laos to pursue the suspects. On August 19, Lao police conducted an arrest operation in Bo Kaeo province, where they found the suspects in possession of firearms. They coordinated with Lao military forces to surround and detain the suspects in the area.
Two suspects have been arrested: the first is Somchai, 32, from Ban Khon Kaeo in Huay Sai subdistrict, Bo Kaeo province, charged with robbery. The second suspect is Ai, 31, a boatman from Ban Mai Huay Sai Nuea in Huay Sai subdistrict, Bo Kaeo province, also charged with robbery and named as an accomplice. Investigators are conducting further inquiries, and details regarding the firearms and stolen property, particularly the gold, have not yet been officially disclosed.
