Police have arrested a 33-year-old university security guard who lured a 74-year-old woman from a som tam shop to a forested area near the Nan River in Wat Chan subdistrict, Mueang district, Phitsanulok, where he raped her before abandoning her near a rice shop. The incident caused widespread shock among the victim's family and the public.

The latest update came at 8:30 a.m. on November 7, 2026, when Pol. Lt. Col. Watcharapong Sitthirungron, Superintendent of Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, led investigators in tracking the suspect via CCTV footage along the crime route. They spotted the suspect on a motorcycle with the grandmother as a passenger leaving the area, then returning alone afterward, which allowed police to identify and locate him.

Police then invited Mr. Sutthipong (surname withheld), 33, who appeared in the CCTV footage, for questioning. He confessed to raping the elderly woman. The suspect works as a security guard at a well-known university in Phitsanulok.

During interrogation, the suspect stated that on the day of the incident he was on his way to work when he saw the grandmother sitting at a som tam shop. He approached her, struck up a conversation, and persuaded her to come with him for a meal. After she got on his motorcycle, he did not take her for food as promised but instead drove to the forested area where he committed the rape.

The suspect further claimed he has a sexual preference for elderly people and suffered from an inability to control himself during the crime. He apologized to the victim and her family, admitted his actions were wrong, and said he is willing to face legal consequences.

Pol. Lt. Col. Channan Samrit, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Mueang Phitsanulok Police Station, is the case investigator. Following the arrest, police conducted legal procedures, took the suspect to the crime scene for a reenactment and to map his confession, before handing him over to the investigator to proceed with charges of rape and further legal action.

The case has generated significant public outrage because the victim is a 74-year-old woman who was defenseless and fell prey to deception. Her family demands that authorities prosecute the perpetrator to the fullest extent of the law to prevent similar crimes against other elderly people.
