The writer admits she initially had low expectations when hearing about another tonkatsu restaurant opening in Bangkok, assuming it would be yet another generic pork cutlet shop. However, after tasting Wagokoro Tonkatsu Ginza Anzu Hanare, she concedes she was wrong. This restaurant is famous in Tokyo's Ginza district, a high-end shopping and dining hub, and has now opened in Thailand at Central World's third floor in the Nippon Avenue zone. The establishment maintains a luxurious Japanese aesthetic throughout, from premium ingredients to tableware and serving utensils.
The menu offers both tonkatsu (pork) and gyu katsu (beef), as the restaurant is an authentic establishment from Kyushu that has operated for over 30 years. Originally based in Fukuoka, it now has 30 branches worldwide. Both pork and beef use premium cuts—Kurobota pork and Miyazaki A5 wagyu beef, the highest grade—which are then aged to enhance flavor and tenderness.
The secret to the crispy exterior and juicy interior lies in the oil, ordered directly from Japan, along with fresh panko breadcrumbs. Rice is served in clay pots, cooked individually to ensure perfectly textured and fluffy Japanese rice. The house-made tonkatsu sauce is crafted from a proprietary blend of vegetables and fruits, offering a balanced, sweet-spicy flavor available in two varieties—the spicy version is mild rather than intensely hot, making it suitable for all palates.
Beyond pork and wagyu, the menu includes chicken, salmon, shrimp, and vegetables. The signature "Kinjo pork combination" features a special cut blending outer and inner sirloin, available in limited quantities daily, priced at 630-650 baht. The "Miyazaki wagyu outer sirloin set" at 1,580 baht is highly recommended—lightly salted and supremely satisfying. The "pork outer sirloin hot plate tonkatsu set" at 580 baht offers a well-balanced sweet and tangy flavor that appeals to Thai palates. For those unsure, the "combination set" with inner pork sirloin and shrimp at 580 baht is suggested. All prices exclude VAT and service charge.
