Wang Ree Boon Lert Temple Plans Historic Umbrella Ceremony

Wang Ree Boon Lert Temple is preparing to hold a grand ceremony to consecrate an ornamental umbrella above the principal Buddha image, as part of its major Kathina robe-offering festival. The temple is inviting families and devotees to participate in this rare occasion—a ceremony that each temple performs only once in its lifetime.

On September 19, 2026, the abbot Phra Kru Prakhat Thammaavathi, together with local government officials and numerous devotees, will participate in the umbrella consecration ceremony at the main ordination hall of Wang Ree Boon Lert Temple in Dusit Subdistrict, Tham Phran District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The ceremony will feature a classical dance performance by students from the temple school, as well as Brahminical rites, deity blessings, and chanting of sacred Buddhist mantras by five senior monks.

Participating in the umbrella consecration is considered highly auspicious, believed to provide protection and bring peace to one's life and family. Importantly, this umbrella ceremony is performed by a temple only once, making it a historic milestone and continuation of Buddhist heritage.

Construction and decoration of the ordination hall are progressing well and will be completed soon. The interior features intricate Thai designs in red, blue, and gold tones, complemented by murals depicting scenes from the life of Buddha. The principal Buddha image in meditation posture is enshrined on a platform with a golden Bodhi tree backdrop, surrounded by celestial figures symbolizing enlightenment.

The ornamental umbrella has been donated by Kirasita Suwantip and Israkan Suwantip, executives of Asia Vanich Limited. The temple is also preparing to host its grand Kathina festival on Saturday, November 21, 2026. The temple invites Buddhists and devotees throughout Nakhon Si Thammarat and the nation to participate in this merit-making occasion.
