Wannor Defends Record, Vows Every Role Serves Nation
Wannor Matha, PM's advisor, defended his shifting political roles across multiple administrations, stating all served the nation's interest and urging cooperation to resolve the southern border conflict after 22 years of violence.
On September 9, Wannor Matha, Prime Minister's Advisor and National Party consultant, posted a statement about his approach to political work, saying that politicians should work for the public good and that his actions—whether as a cabinet minister, parliamentary speaker, opposition member, budget commissioner, or current advisor—have always aimed to benefit the nation regardless of who leads it. He emphasized that past prime ministers, including General Chalermchai Yongchaiyudh, Thaksin Shinawatra, Yingluck Shinawatra, and Anutin Charnvirakul, have visited his home in Yala, and that such mutual respect is not wrong, especially given the decades-long conflict in the three southern border provinces. Wannor noted that the problems in the south stem not from locals but from external actors creating obstacles to development, and he provides factual advice to the premier as someone rooted in the region. He appealed for an end to internal conflict, saying that after 22 years of suffering and nearly 500 billion baht spent, it is time for all sides to cooperate, review the past, and create lasting peace by 2027. On party matters, Wannor clarified that while he is willing to advise the party executive committee, ultimate responsibility rests with the party leader and executive board, and he will not claim credit or shift blame to others. The statement comes amid reports of rifts within the National Party, with speculation that Wannor's faction may be aligning with the Phum Jai Thai Party.
