Water Resources Chief Inspects Udon Thani Drought Relief Project
Water Resources Chief inspected an upgraded Huai Sam Phad water source in Udon Thani, featuring a solar-powered system serving 17
The Department of Water Resources, through Office of Water Resources Region 3, upgraded the Huai Sam Phad water source which suffered from siltation that reduced storage capacity. Recent severe storms in Udon Thani damaged drainage structures, preventing full water storage and affecting residents and farmers dependent on the source. Urgent restoration was required. The project includes a solar-powered water distribution system with 20 release points to serve agricultural areas, plus drainage structure repairs for stability and proper water management. This cuts energy costs, boosts delivery efficiency, and expands farmer access to water, particularly during the high-demand dry season. The project secures water for roughly 200 rai of farmland, benefiting 175 households, easing agricultural water shortages, lowering dry-season crop damage risk, and enabling continuous economic crop cultivation to create jobs and income. The visit underscores the Department's commitment to developing water sources for tangible public benefit, stressing collaboration among government agencies, local administrations, community leaders, and residents. Combined with increased storage and efficient distribution, the effort aims to mitigate drought, ensure water security, improve quality of life, and drive sustainable community economic growth.
