Woman Ignores Warning, Four Rescued After Car Swept Into Flood
A woman and three family members were rescued after ignoring warnings and driving their car into a swollen stream in Chachoengsao Province on September 26, with all four pulled to safety by emergency responders using ropes.
A dramatic rescue unfolded at 2 p.m. on September 26 in Samut Chai District, Chachoengsao Province, when a 50-year-old woman driving a private vehicle with three family members attempted to cross a swollen stream despite a village headman's warning to turn back. The car was swept away by the torrent, forcing emergency responders from the subdistrict administration to mount an urgent rescue. Officials instructed all four victims to hold onto a rubber tree as rain pounded down and water rushed around them. Using ropes, rescuers managed to pull all four to safety in a harrowing operation lasting more than thirty minutes. The driver later explained she had been following GPS directions from Bangkok bound for Sarayburi Province.
Elsewhere in Chachoengsao, officials including the provincial governor inspected damaged roads and found major erosion along Route 3076 that has cut off traffic. Water was actively eating away at the roadbed even as they stood surveying the damage, forcing them to retreat. The governor revealed that military assistance has been arranged to build temporary bridges to restore connectivity. While a reservoir is still accepting floodwater, the main municipal area—an economic center—remains under close monitoring. High tides are currently hampering drainage, causing water to pool on roads. Officials expect floodwaters flowing from Tha Takiab District to reach Phanom Sarakon, Bang Kla, Plaeng Yao, and Ratchburi Districts within one to two days, but say the situation should be manageable given existing preventive measures by local leaders.
