Driver Rescued After Sedan Swept Into Canal by Floodwaters
A sedan was swept off a road and into a canal by floodwaters near an industrial estate in Rayong Province on September 27, but the driver was rescued by a friend who forced the door open before the vehicle fully submerged.
A harrowing incident unfolded on September 27, 2026, on a road near an industrial estate in Kalong Subdistrict, Muang District, Rayong Province, after heavy rain triggered flooding and a powerful current of floodwater swept a white sedan off the road and into a canal. Rescue workers from the Sawang Phra Kusol Foundation Rayong rushed to the scene and found the car overturned and submerged in the water. Officers checked inside the vehicle but found no one trapped, and they pushed the car to ensure no one remained inside.
Wuttipong Changngoen, a rescue worker with the Sawang Phra Kusol Foundation Rayong, reported that the call came in around 10:00 a.m. and the team responded immediately to the area near the industrial estate. When they arrived, they found three tourists or Chinese nationals standing nearby in shock.
According to their account, heavy rain had caused significant flooding on the road. The driver's friend was traveling ahead in a pickup truck, while the victim was following alone in a sedan. When they reached the affected area, the strong floodwater swept the sedan off the road, and it overturned and sank into the canal. Fortunately, the friend in the pickup truck managed to navigate through safely and immediately came to help, forcing open the door and pulling his friend to safety in a life-or-death moment before the vehicle sank any deeper.
