17 Thai Provinces Face Landslide and Flooding Risk
Thailand's Geohazard Operations Center warns 17 provinces of landslide and flooding risks from heavy rainfall expected over the next 24 hours, particularly affecting lower northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions.
On September 15, 2026, the Geohazard Operations Center under the Department of Mineral Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, issued a warning for residents to be alert to landslides and flash floods due to heavy, continuous rainfall in landslide-prone areas. Rainfall forecasts suggest elevated risk of landslides across 17 provinces: Tak, Mae Hong Son, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Phetchabun, Sukhothai, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chanthaburi, Trat, Loei, Krabi, and Ranong.
The Thai Meteorological Department forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, particularly in lower northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. Residents are urged to be cautious of severe rainfall, accumulated water that may cause flash floods and flooding, and mud slides, especially on hillsides near waterways and in low-lying areas. Avoid travel through repeatedly flooded routes, particularly low-lying areas prone to temporary flooding.
Volunteer networks in at-risk areas have been asked to closely monitor geological hazards and prepare for potential emergencies. Officials are directed to inspect affected areas promptly if incidents occur, to provide reassurance and initial guidance to residents in vulnerable zones.
