11 Aug Khaosod

On August 11, TikToker @iiceziii posted a video supporting an elderly man who sells kuaytiaw alone to care for his hospitalized wife. The post appealed for support, sharing his morning location at Wat Khlong Ple and evening spot at 7-Eleven Big C Khlong Haeng, noting prices are affordable at 40-50 baht per bowl.

The vendor, Somchai, is over 90 years old and in fair health despite slight hand tremors while cooking. His wife is in her 70s, bedridden with intestinal illness and weak legs. Somchai explained he had stopped selling for a month to care for her and had only recently returned to work after three days. He fears raising prices will drive customers away. Tragically, his only son died 5-6 months ago.

When the TikToker returned to visit, Somchai happily reported that sales had surged—normally selling 2-3 bowls daily, but on that day he sold over 10, the best day since resuming work. The post encouraged the public to support the elderly couple.

An elderly woman died alone in a bathroom in Samut Songkhram Province on August 11, likely from an asthma attack; neighbors discovered her after noticing her pet rooster kept vigil outside the locked bathroom door.

Elderly Woman Dies Alone in Bathroom as Pet Rooster Keeps Vigil
11 Aug Khaosod

On August 11, 2025, Amphawa Police Station received word of a death inside a residential dwelling in Tambon Suan Luang, Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram Province. Officers and rescue workers responded to find a locked house, forcing them to climb through a window to gain entry. Upon reaching the bathroom, they discovered the body of an elderly woman later identified as Phayao, a solitary resident from another province. The body was positioned near the bathtub and was estimated to have been deceased for at least eight hours.

Neighbors told investigators that they regularly left food for her at midday. That evening, noticing the food still hanging untouched, they grew concerned and called out to her with no response. They then alerted officials to check on her welfare, leading to the tragic discovery.

During the investigation, officers found two chickens kept as companions by the deceased—one rooster and one hen brooding eggs. The rooster circled near the bathroom entrance, crying and calling, seemingly aware that its caretaker was gone. This scene deeply moved both officials and the neighbors who witnessed it.

Medication containers found inside the house indicated she suffered from asthma and received treatment from a provincial hospital. Preliminary findings suggest the woman experienced a sudden asthma attack while attempting to bathe or enter the bathroom and was unable to help herself. Her body was sent for autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.

A salaried worker has touched hearts by sharing his daily commute routine from Lopburi to his job at Prom Phong in Bangkok. On August 11, TikTok user @fahskyler posted a review of his life as a commuter, writing: "Review of a salaried worker's life: commuting daily from Lopburi to work at Prom Phong." His schedule begins at 6:30 a.m. with a shower and getting ready, followed by a drive in his electric car from Lopburi to the parking building at Din Daeng—about 1.5 hours. He then takes the BTS from Din Daeng station to Prom Phong station, approximately 1 hour, and walks to his office in the M Quarter building, arriving by 10:00 a.m. He leaves work around 3 p.m., stops to charge his car, and arrives home around midnight. The reason behind his exhausting daily commute is simple: he wants to see his wife and newborn baby every evening. In his post, he emphasized that despite the fatigue, he never stops, wanting to be a father his child will be proud of. His personal dreams matter less now—his only dream is to see his child's dreams come true. The post sparked widespread comments and support, with the user noting in replies that on days with early morning meetings or when especially tired, he sometimes stays at his mother's place in Don Muang.

Thailand's Astronomy Institute Invites Public to Watch Perseid Meteor Shower
11 Aug Khaosod

The National Astronomical Research Institute's Deputy Director Supharak Kruhanam announced that the Perseid Meteor Shower (Perseids Meteor Shower), locally called the "Mother's Day Meteor Shower," will occur from the night of August 12 through the morning of August 13. The radiant point is located in the Perseus constellation, rising from the northeast horizon around 11 p.m. on August 12 and remaining visible continuously until dawn on August 13, with an expected peak rate of approximately 100 meteors per hour.

The viewing conditions this year are exceptionally favorable as there will be no moonlight to interfere with observations. The institute recommends viewing from areas away from city lights or light pollution. The best method for observing the meteor shower is to lie down and watch with the naked eye, following the direction of the meteor distribution. If weather conditions are clear and dry, the beauty of the Perseid Meteor Shower can be enjoyed throughout Thailand.

However, Thailand is currently in the rainy season with heavy rainfall in many areas. Those who miss this meteor shower can look forward to other meteor showers in future months, as these are annual phenomena that occur regularly every year.

Police seized an unregistered Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver and a black shoulder bag from the suspect.

The operation was conducted following government directives to crackdown on illegal firearm possession, particularly after a recent incident in Nonthaburi province where a youth used a gun to shoot family members and a teacher. Police received complaints from neighbors that the man was displaying the weapon and firing shots into the air, causing alarm in the community.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he is a motorcycle taxi driver who purchased the unregistered firearm for 5,000 baht. He admitted to displaying the gun to neighbors simply to show off, with no intention to cause harm. Police charged him with unlawful possession of a firearm and forwarded the case to prosecutors for legal proceedings.

Chinese Fugitive Arrested in Thailand for $500M Fraud
11 Aug Khaosod

Police Region 4 and Nakhon Ratchasima provincial police have arrested a Chinese national wanted on an international warrant for defrauding investors of over 500 million baht. The suspect had hidden in northeastern Thailand before attempting to flee to Pattaya.

On August 11, 2025, at 2 p.m., Pol. Gen. Pairat Pukcharoen, commander of Police Region 4, and Deputy Commander Pol. Col. Manuwat Kotsanan led Region 4 officers and investigators from Region 3 to apprehend the suspect, known by the alias Yin. The Chinese national allegedly defrauded the public by soliciting deposits through promises of principal repayment plus 6.2% annual interest returns. He collected funds from more than 200 investors totaling approximately 100 million yuan, equivalent to 500 million baht, before fleeing to Thailand.

According to the Region 4 commander, investigators coordinated with international police to track the suspect's whereabouts to a northeastern province, and discovered he had subsequently relocated to a village in Chachoengsao Province. Officers followed up with Region 3 investigators and successfully apprehended him in Pattaya.

Initially, officials notified the suspect of deportation orders and transferred him to the Immigration Bureau's detention center awaiting extradition to his home country. The operation aligns with national police leadership's policy to systematically dismantle transnational criminal networks and prevent Thailand from becoming a safe haven for foreign lawbreakers.

Election Commission Fires Official Over Bribery in House Race Probe
11 Aug Khaosod

The Election Commission (EC) clarified on August 11 that it discovered a financial trail in Amnat Charoen province during a Senate election bribery investigation. An individual transferred 860,000 baht to an EC investigation officer in 13 transactions between April and July 2024.

The officer, who was assigned to investigate House of Representatives election violations during the same period, received the transfers while employed by the EC. The EC emphasized the officer's duties pertained to the House election, not the Senate race under investigation. The commission has taken four actions: ordering the employee's dismissal, launching a serious disciplinary inquiry that is now under review, filing criminal charges against the officer and two others, and reporting the matter to the National Anti-Corruption Commission.

The EC also noted that financial evidence from four provinces—Nakhon Phanom, Lampoon, Songkhla, and Amnat Charoen—remains under examination. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, integrity, and proper conduct, and pledged to cooperate fully with relevant agencies in verifying all facts.

Celebrity Man Kaarin Leads 100 Fans on Merit-Making Temple Visit
11 Aug Khaosod

Celebrity Man Kaarin has served as a bridge for merit-making, leading over 100 fans on a pilgrimage to make offerings, present candles, drape cloth over the golden chedi at Wat Saraket, and pay respects to the Earth Goddess shrine. Man shared the concept of practicing the three pillars of Buddhist merit—precepts, giving, and meditation—while revealing simple everyday tricks anyone can use to accumulate merit as a spiritual reserve for times of hardship during this economically uncertain era.

Man arrived alongside fellow celebrities and amulet organizers, with the group meeting at the base of the golden chedi before proceeding to donate to monks and present candles at the pavilion for auspiciousness. The group then climbed to the main chedi to drape cloth around it.

Man explained the significance of this location as a "gateway of merit," noting that historically this area witnessed considerable death and rebirth cycles, particularly during plague outbreaks when bodies were placed near the spirit gate. He recommended this for those facing obstacles in real estate or business, suggesting devotees donate 21 baht while making wishes to the chedi and relic. The group later processed to honor the Earth Goddess shrine on Ratchadamnoen Road, where over 100 devotees recited prayers together and presented a garland over 6 meters long.

Man revealed, "Today we brought over 100 compassionate people to pay respects, drape cloth over the chedi at Wat Saraket, focusing on practicing all three pillars of merit while dedicating the merit to the Earth Goddess to help draw upon past merit to support our lives during these economically and externally challenging times."

Accumulating "merit points" works like collecting reward points to redeem during life's difficulties. Man emphasized doing merit gradually within one's means without burden, noting that giving can be as simple as daily donations or acts of kindness. Doing good before making wishes increases the likelihood of success. Future merit-making activities can be followed via Facebook, with another major event planned for August with no participation costs.
