Abhisit Defends Yingcheep Amid Lawsuit Allegations
25 Jul Khaosod

On July 25, 2025, at Parliament, Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democratic Party leader and list MP, addressed the controversy surrounding politicians filing a lawsuit against Yingcheep Akaranont, director of the Internet Law project (ILaw), following the disclosure of nine names linked to the Parliament speaker election case.

Abhisit argued that no one wants to face legal action, and the disclosed information comes from Election Commission complaints that are already known at high levels, including among prosecutors and the DSI (Department of Special Investigation). He stated that public figures should offer clarification rather than face prosecution, noting current public concern that the Election Commission's special inquiry panel's preliminary finding of no wrongdoing contradicts the substantial evidence previously presented, including financial trails, hotel records, and vote-buying photographs.

Abhisit added that even if false accusations are proven, legal remedies exist, but he believes those who disclosed the information did so not for entertainment but based on official agency investigations. Those accused must clarify their whereabouts and activities on relevant dates. The disclosed information is already known to prosecutors and the DSI, which identified seven groups of involved parties, including politicians and political parties who interfered.

When asked whether government coalition members filing the complaint constitutes harassment or an attempt to silence critics, Abhisit stated it is their right, but public figures deserve accountability. He argued that lawsuits intended to intimidate or create fear about transparency constitute misconduct.

Half-Thai Actor Warns Italian Teens: Thailand Is Paradise—Don't Anger Thais
25 Jul Khaosod

On July 25, 2025, Stefan Thasist Sinkhanavivaht, a former well-known actor and half-Thai-Italian influencer, commented on the incident involving Italian teenagers causing a disturbance on the BTS skytrain. He said it was unacceptable behavior and that his relatives were very upset about the incident.

Stefan emphasized that Thailand is like heaven to visitors, and Thai people are genuinely kind-hearted. He noted that Thai people are unique in the world—when something happens, they smile and let things go, sometimes cursing under their breath but moving on. However, he warned that angering Thai people could quickly transform earthly paradise into hell.

He called on all people, whether Thai, Italian, or from any other nation, to show basic courtesy to others. He gave the example that when dining at restaurants, people should not speak loudly. He pointed out that when Thais travel to Japan, America, or Europe, they respect the local people. He stressed that Thai people are naturally kind-hearted, and visitors should not mistake this kindness for weakness or take advantage of it. While Thai people possess inherent goodness, they should not be provoked.

Representatives of an Italian youth group apologized to Thai people for their actions, saying what they did on the BTS was wrong and expressing sincere remorse. They acknowledged that money cannot buy respect. On July 25, 2025, the Embassy of Italy in Bangkok issued a statement condemning the inappropriate behavior of Italian tourists—school-age youth on an educational trip—whose actions appeared in a viral social media video. The embassy offered sincere apologies to all Thai citizens and anyone upset or concerned by the incident.

The embassy emphasized that Italians deeply respect and admire Thai society's values of respect for others, courtesy, and harmonious coexistence—values Italy shares equally. The embassy stressed that the youths' inappropriate behavior does not represent the Italian people as a whole and cannot be taken as reflecting the values of mutual respect, friendship, and humble courtesy that form the foundation of long-standing Thailand-Italy relations.

The embassy released a video apology from four Italian representatives. A man in a white shirt stated: "We are representatives of the Italian group that went viral on the internet. We made this video to apologize to Thai people and Thai culture. We intended to speak yesterday but delayed due to anxiety and fear, which we now recognize was a serious mistake. We sincerely apologize to all Thai people and Thailand for what we did."

A woman in a red shirt said: "I feel deeply sorry for what happened. I understand that money cannot buy respect. I am truly sorry for everyone affected, including disrespect to Thai culture and all Thai people."

A young man in black apologized profusely to all Thai people, saying what they did on the BTS was wrong and asking forgiveness for his and their actions. A woman in white stated: "We do not support these students' behaviors. Those involved will return to Italy as soon as possible, and we will educate our group to strictly respect culture again. Thank you for welcoming us, and we ask for your forgiveness."

25 Jul Khaosod

Thailand will send 3×3 men's and women's basketball teams to compete in a major Asian-level tournament in China to accumulate world ranking points before heading to Japan to pursue two medals at the Asian Games.

The 20th Asian Games will take place from September 19 to October 4, 2025, in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Basketball Association of Thailand president Nipont Chuaritmontean announced that the Thai national basketball teams, supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand, will compete in three categories: women's 5×5, men's 3×3, and women's 3×3.

Regarding the 5×5 competition, Nipont noted that while the host nation designated 12 teams for the men's final round, Thailand ranked 14th in Asia and fell short of qualification despite Syria (ranked 13th) withdrawing. The women's 5×5 team, ranked 9th-10th in Asia, qualified and will feature new players to strengthen the roster.

For the 3×3 category, limited to athletes age 23 and under, Thailand's women's team previously won bronze at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia and will retain two players from the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou with a Serbian coach. The men's team will also feature two returnees from Hangzhou mixed with emerging talent. Officials are targeting two medals from the 3×3 events.

Before the Asian Games in September 2025, the association will send both 3×3 teams to compete in approximately 4-5 major world ranking tournaments in China during August 2025, serving as crucial preparation and selection benchmarks.

CHONBURI — Four people were rescued after a speedboat sank in rough seas near Koh Khram off Sattahip district on Friday evening.

The incident occurred at around 5:30 p.m. on July 24, approximately 12 nautical miles from the coast. Initial reports said strong winds and waves caused the vessel to founder, leaving it unable to continue its journey.

The four people on board were two foreign men and two Thai women.

Pattaya Marine Rescue Unit 501 and water rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation responded to the incident and safely pulled all four from the water. No serious injuries were initially reported.

After the rescue, foundation personnel towed the damaged speedboat to shore in the Bang Saray area for inspection.

However, the Pattaya rescue boat involved in the operation was initially unable to return to shore because of continuing rough conditions. The crew took shelter behind an island while waiting for the weather to improve.

Initial reports placed sea conditions at level three to four. Authorities said they would continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates.

Undefeated Champ Shark Defends Belt Against Rising Challenger

Undefeated champion Shark Pranchai defends his Rajadamnern super featherweight title against rising challenger Yotkaew Jitmeuangnon this Saturday, with the champion's nearly 8-year winning streak on the line.

Undefeated Champ Shark Defends Belt Against Rising Challenger
25 Jul Khaosod

Shark Pranchai has been undefeated for nearly 8 years in the 130-pound division, with his last loss dating back to September 12, 2561 (2018), when he lost on points to Tuan Kamnuannat. At that time, many things in the world had not yet happened or had just begun—Liverpool had not yet won the Premier League, Rodsai had not yet become a ONE world champion, Lionel Messi had not yet won the FIFA World Cup, and Yotkaew had not yet reached 100 pounds.

This Saturday's RWS event will see Shark Pranchai make his fourth title defense of the Rajadamnern Championship super featherweight crown against Yotkaew Jitmeuangnon from Jitmeuangnon camp. Yotkaew is a formidable challenger who has held numerous Thai boxing titles across multiple weight classes, including 7-Color Ring championships and Omnoi Stadium titles, but has yet to capture the prestigious Rajadamnern belt.

The bout promises to be one of Shark's toughest tests yet. Yotkaew has built an impressive record and is hungry to dethrone the long-reigning champion. Tonight's fight will determine whether Shark can extend his nearly 8-year unbeaten run in the 130-pound division or if the rising challenger will claim the Rajadamnern crown.

Deputy Minister Plays Esports Game, Pushes Digital Youth Policy
25 Jul Khaosod

Deputy Education Minister Akkanut Kannitinant presided over the opening of the NPRU E-Sport Secondary Cup 2026 training program for esports competitors and content creators on July 25, 2569, alongside Education Ministry task force member Paramee Waijongjaroeng, Kanchanaburi Secondary Education Area Office Director Paichiaya Pimmsari, Thapmongkhon Rangsit School Director Siwarutt Payuha, and faculty members. The competition drew strong interest from regional secondary schools, with 33 teams competing, reflecting collaborative support for learning that meets the digital era's needs.

Deputy Minister Akkanut stated that while the world prioritizes esports, Thailand lacks adequate budget support—this event received minimal initial funding for meaningful youth development. "Understanding modern teenagers' needs, I am determined to create spaces for creative activities for children and youth," he said. "I will push this at the ministry level for concrete results soon. Our first goal is to make Kanchanaburi a regional esports model to serve as a pilot before expanding support to esports-loving students nationwide."

Akkanut also posted on his Facebook page that he played the game Realm of Valor with youth at the esports event because he believes education leaders should not wait for children to adapt to us—we must adapt to understand their world. In a rapidly changing era, speaking the same language as the new generation means understanding their thoughts, interests, and lifestyle, not just using the same words. Playing games together is not merely fun but an opportunity to bridge the age gap and create natural conversation. As deputy minister overseeing education, he believes good policy must start with genuinely listening to and understanding young people, because when we understand them, we design education that better serves the future.
