Actor Builds New Home for Gen-Z Kids, Embraces 'Supportive Dad' Role

Actor Builds New Home for Gen-Z Kids, Embraces 'Supportive Dad' Role
1d ago Khaosod

Actor Somchai Khemkla has proven himself a true 'supportive dad.' He recently attended a film blessing ceremony for "Pobla Khai Lai Krajoing" at One Shot Studio in the Ladprao area, where he opened up about his new home, which is currently being decorated. His family had lived in their previous house for 17 years, but as his children grew older—Somjai is now 16 and Sukjai is 15—they expressed a wish to have their own rooms with their choice of wallpaper and furniture. Previously, all four family members slept in one small room. Somchai decided to build a three-storey house with high ceilings and a carport with reinforced pillars for future expansion, all within his set budget.

When asked about his daughters' special requests, Somchai explained that the second floor has separate bedrooms for each daughter plus a guest room for relatives, while the third floor serves as a penthouse for him and his wife. His Gen-Z children have specific design preferences—Somjai favours an artistic style and initially wanted 1980s vintage furniture, though he eventually chose something more comfortable. He is now designing his own room, buying posters of his favourite BL artists to decorate the walls. Somchai advised him to use frames so the posters can be moved easily without damage, and his son collects pillows and photos of his favourite artists to cuddle while sleeping.

Regarding his daughters' celebrity crushes, Somchai said Somjai initially liked Yin Wor and still does, while recently also becoming a fan of William S. He expressed how happy he is to support whatever makes his children happy, comparing it to how fans supported him 30 years ago. He praised his son for being considerate—when inviting Somchai to concerts, he would say, "Dad, you're not into BL, so can you just drop me off?" His son buys his own ticket and enters alone, and his daughters have jokingly posted Somchai online as the ultimate supportive dad. "I've had to act quite a bit because I need the money to buy tickets, which are more expensive than my own concerts," he laughed.

When asked if his children save for these expenses themselves, Somchai explained that they save money from gifts received during New Year and Chinese New Year from grandparents. His wife also deposits part of their savings into a bank account for their future use. However, concert tickets are expensive, so his son negotiated with him, saying, "Dad, if the ticket is cheap I can just take a photo, but if it's this expensive, can I hold your hand?" They eventually agreed to split the cost—a 6,900 baht ticket, with Somchai paying half, though he doesn't attend the concerts himself.

When asked if his children ever use the privilege of being Somchai Khemkla's children, he answered definitively: "Never."

TikTok Influencer Sues Clinic Over Botched Nose Surgery

A 25-year-old TikTok influencer is suing a Bangkok clinic after nose surgery in 2022 left her with a crooked, swollen nose, breathing problems, and mounting medical costs, with the clinic offering only partial compensation.

TikTok Influencer Sues Clinic Over Botched Nose Surgery
1d ago Khaosod

On August 17, 2025, at the office of Thanakrit Law Firm in Bangkok, Joy, a 25-year-old TikTok influencer, disclosed that she underwent nose augmentation and tip refinement at a Rama 9 clinic in October 2022 for 65,000 baht as a review case, meaning she paid nothing upfront. After leaving the operating room, she discovered her nose was crooked on the left side. The doctor claimed the base of her nose was naturally skewed but did not warn her this could occur. She subsequently developed redness and inflammation.

The clinic later attempted to correct the inflammation at an additional cost of 5,000 baht, but the tip remained swollen, red, and structurally compromised, risking perforation. Eventually, the silicone implant was removed and she was told to wait six months before revision surgery. However, she refused further treatment at that clinic because two procedures had already failed. She is now consulting another doctor who estimates the corrective surgery will cost 300,000 baht. The original clinic has only offered 65,000–80,000 baht in settlement.

The clinic has invoked its review contract, claiming the right to use her photographs until 2027, and continues to post images of the nose surgery on social media even as she undergoes ongoing treatment more than two years later. The patient reports she now experiences breathing difficulties on her left side, requiring nasal spray and asthma medication, and is unable to work on camera or accept review jobs, losing income opportunities. She chose this clinic because the surgeon was a qualified plastic surgeon and her case history seemed promising.

Dr. Thanakrit Jitareerattana, head of the Thanakrit Volunteer Group, stated that the patient currently has a deviated nose, the implant has been removed, and the clinic has yet to provide compensation. He has escalated the case to the Department of Health Service Support under the Ministry of Public Health to investigate the facts under the Hospital Act. The clinic must be held responsible for the patient's breathing problems and pay civil damages. The case has also been referred to the Medical Council to examine the clinic's treatment standards.

Skincare Influencer Films Full Routine During Movie Sparks Etiquette Row
1d ago Khaosod

A prominent skincare influencer with over 2 million social media followers ignited an online debate after filming a complete skincare routine during a packed screening of "The Odyssey" at a cinema. The creator, known as @np.miranda, is a nurse and beauty treatment specialist who shared her full regimen on TikTok, starting with a headband and hair tying, then cleansing water, followed by spray, neck cream, eye cream, and a full-face collagen mask. She also applied lip masks, ate dried meat, and sipped a carbonated drink, captioning the video "POV: 3-hour movie" and asking followers if anyone else brings skincare and snacks to theaters.

Many viewers criticized the behavior, arguing that using a bright phone screen and performing a multi-step routine in a dark theater disturbs others and represents a basic breach of etiquette. Critics questioned why she did not perform full skincare at home, with some saying they would feel like they were living a "nightmare" if seated next to her. The backlash extended to broader criticism of influencer culture, with some viewers expressing fatigue with influencer behavior and calling for TikTok to add a dislike button, while others viewed the act as merely an attention-seeking stunt online.

However, not all responses were negative. Some users defended the creator, saying they barely noticed what she was doing and did not understand how wearing a face mask could be troublesome. Others appreciated the idea as a creative way to spend time during a long film, with the creator herself responding that it was "excellent multitasking." The incident reflects a broader trend of increasingly longer films, with average runtime for major productions rising from about 106 minutes in the 1990s to around 114 minutes or more today, with action films averaging about 128 minutes. Director Denis Villeneuve of Dune has noted that younger audiences tend to appreciate longer films like Oppenheimer, which runs three hours, suggesting that as movies grow longer, it is unsurprising that some viewers seek ways to "multitask" during screenings.

Luang Pho Dit Tisso of Ampawan Temple in Nonthaburi was a celebrated monk of the World War II period and expert in Buddhist scripture and esoteric amulet craftsmanship, having studied under Luang Pho To at Tha It Temple in Pak Kret. He is credited as the originator of the rare "silver fish and gold fish" or "paired catfish" protective amulets. His first-edition medal, created in 1966, features an oval shape with a loop, a half-length portrait on the obverse, and ritual script on the reverse reading "Phra Kru Nonthabat Pradist" and marking a celebration at Ampawan Temple—now extremely scarce. In 2003, Maha Sarakham Municipality built the Maha Sarakham City Museum at Nong Kha Park to promote local heritage and community-based handicraft sales, and established a principal Buddha image titled "Phra Phuttha Tak Sinlamahajai" measuring 29 inches. The municipality also minted commemorative medals of Phra Phuttha Kanthawijjai in both lead-alloy (1,000 pieces at 199 baht) and copper (5,000 pieces at 29 baht) to fund the museum; the consecration ceremony took place on August 21, 2003, attended by renowned Eastern Thai monks. Separately, in 1995, Luang Pu Ti Yano Sophon, former abbot of Luang Raja Was Temple in Uthai Thani, created "Luang Pho in Vihara" medals in silver and copper with a loop, featuring a Buddha image in meditation on a lotus throne, to fund vihara restoration. In 2002, Luang Pu Somphaar of Pa Vivek Phattana Ram Temple in Bueng Kan commissioned the first-edition portrait amulet in copper—10,000 pieces—to donors supporting the restoration of the sermon hall, driving increased local demand for these pieces.

Child Bitten by Stray Dogs at Housing Estate Raises Liability Questions

An 8-year-old boy was bitten by stray dogs at a Bangkok housing estate, prompting authorities to coordinate efforts to capture and neuter the estimated 100 strays roaming the 46-building complex.

Child Bitten by Stray Dogs at Housing Estate Raises Liability Questions
1d ago Khaosod

On August 17, reporters investigated a complaint filed by parents after their 8-year-old son was attacked and bitten by stray dogs while playing at a playground in Bangkhuntian Mercy Housing Estate. The child suffered multiple bite wounds and required medical treatment.

The boy's mother recounted that on the evening of August 15, her son went out to play with friends as usual when suddenly a pack of stray dogs chased and attacked him. She said an adult happened to witness the attack and intervened, preventing more serious injuries. She said medical bills had to be paid out of pocket and questioned who should bear responsibility. She has not filed a criminal complaint but wants the stray dogs removed from the area, as many children live in the estate.

Veerawat Rajasih, a condo juristic committee member, said the committee had been monitoring the child's injuries closely and discussing compensation. He noted that the 46-building estate is home to approximately 100 stray dogs that residents occasionally feed. The committee has been trying to control the strays but faced challenges; they recently coordinated with the district office and relevant agencies.

Bangkhuntian District Councillor Narupol Lertpunyanont confirmed that the district office had been notified and was coordinating a response. District Director Phatakorn Sinsouk said multiple agencies had gathered to address the problem, including district officials, the juristic committee, and the victim. They visited the incident site to accelerate a solution.

Sinsouk explained that stray dog and cat problems are handled by reporting to the Public Veterinary Health Office under the Health Department. For dogs with owners, normal procedures apply; for strays, officials must first assess whether they are dangerous before attempting capture. He acknowledged challenges in catching strays across the large estate, as dogs hide under buildings and in crevices. Cooperation from those who feed the dogs is needed. In July, only one dog was captured. Officials coordinated with feeders and expected to capture a first batch the following day, after which the dogs would be neutered and cared for.

On August 17, Udon Thani Emergency Response Center 191 received a report of a man with severe injuries and heavy bleeding inside a dormitory on Artist Lane in Muang Udon Thani Municipality. Rescue personnel arrived to find the victim, identified as Pun Sak, 35, a Type 3 disabled person with movement-related impairments, bleeding from head wounds on the third floor. He was rushed to hospital.

Investigating officers from Muang Udon Thani Police Station later identified the assailant as Bun Peng, 57, the victim's biological father, who fled the scene.

The dormitory manager revealed both men are relatives—Bun Peng is the uncle and Pun Sak is the nephew. He had allowed them to live rent-free out of compassion, as both are disabled, unemployed, and receive only 800 baht monthly in disability benefits. However, both frequently drink alcohol and quarrel. The latest incident allegedly began when they were drinking together. When they went to bed, Pun Sak apparently threatened Bun Peng with a knife and placed a chair around his neck. Bun Peng called for help from another resident, Pei, 41, who witnessed the altercation. When Pei intervened to separate them, Pun Sak told him "I'm going to kill him." Bun Peng then struck Pun Sak repeatedly in the head with a beer bottle before fleeing. When arrested, Bun Peng claimed he acted in self-defense after enduring repeated attacks from his son and said he was willing to accept imprisonment.

Venerable Luang Pho Nge, Revered Monk of Ban Pai Tia

Luang Pho Nge, the revered abbot of Ban Pai Tia Temple in Samut Sakhon, died in 1968 after 34 years leading the monastery and becoming renowned for creating sacred amulets, particularly his famous Phra Somdej talismans.

Venerable Luang Pho Nge, Revered Monk of Ban Pai Tia
1d ago Khaosod

Luang Pho Nge Pasatiko was the former abbot of Charoen Sukha Ram Monastery, popularly known as Ban Pai Tia Temple, in Samut Sakhon Province. Born in 1899 as Nge Rong Thong, he ordained at Ban Pai Tia at age 35 and studied Buddhist scripture under Luang Pho Khlaai at Silam Mool Temple before pursuing advanced Dharma studies at Don Khodsit Aram Monastery, where he befriended several eminent monks.

Ban Pai Tia Temple was founded around 1905 on land donated by the Pun-Udom and Milavonn families, situated along Khlong Ma Hawn canal in Samut Sakhon. The temple progressed through several abbots—Luang Pho Lao, Phra Ajarn Phlian, and Phra Ajarn On—before Luang Pho Nge was invited to lead the monastery following Phra Ajarn Ot's death. Although initially reluctant due to his affiliation with the Dhammayuttika Nikaya sect, the local community's strong faith and the practical arrangement between different Buddhist sects convinced him to accept the position.

After becoming abbot, Luang Pho Nge dedicated himself to developing the temple, rebuilding the main ordination hall with teak wood to replace the deteriorating structure, and providing spiritual guidance to the community. He served until his death on Monday, 4 November 1968, which coincided with the full moon day of the twelfth lunar month and Loy Kratong Festival. He lived 69 years and spent 34 years in monastic life.

Luang Pho Nge became renowned for creating sacred amulets and talismans over many generations, most famously the first edition of his "Phra Somdej" amulets, produced around 1965. These square-shaped amulets contained white sacred powder made from a blend of special powders and hand-ground materials, distributed to temple donors. The front features a three-tiered Phra Somdej base design with characteristic Mon script inscriptions, while the back is smooth with Mon script text.

Researchers: 2025 Earthquake Activity Within Normal Range Over 100 Years
1d ago Khaosod

Researchers have concluded that 2025 earthquake statistics, when compared with data spanning the past 100 years, fall within natural fluctuations and occur regularly as tectonic plates collide and separate, causing faults to slip suddenly.

On August 17, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Phassakorn Pananon, instructor in the Department of Earth Sciences at Kasetsart University, addressed major earthquake events that have continuously appeared in social media and various news outlets in recent months. These incidents in the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, Venezuela, Colombia, and Pacific islands—accompanied by images of widespread tremors, swaying buildings, structural damage, and urgent evacuations—have created a public perception that the Earth's crust is moving more frequently and intensely than normal.

"With news reaching us almost instantly, the key question is not simply how large each earthquake is, but whether these successive events signal that the world is entering an abnormal period, and how alarmed should Thailand be?" Pananon said.

According to USGS data from January 1 to August 17, 2025, the world recorded 11 large earthquakes ranging from magnitude 7.0 to 7.9 across 9 countries, with no earthquakes of magnitude 8.0 or above. When compared with long-term statistics dating back to 1926, the world averages 10–20 earthquakes of magnitude 7.0 or greater per year, with earthquakes larger than magnitude 8 occurring roughly once annually. This clearly shows that the number of major earthquakes remains within the natural fluctuation framework and represents a regularly recurring process.

Importantly, nearly all earthquakes occur at tectonic plate boundaries rather than scattered randomly across the globe. Earth's outer crust is not a single layer but divided into multiple tectonic plates that move slowly. When tectonic plates collide, separate, or slide past one another, stress accumulates along faults. When stress exceeds friction, the fault suddenly slips and releases energy as seismic waves.

Researchers attribute the perception of more frequent earthquakes primarily to advances in communication technology and the expansion of monitoring networks. With vastly more monitoring stations, the USGS can now detect approximately 20,000 earthquakes per year, or an average of 55 per day. Images and news from affected areas are transmitted to people worldwide very rapidly.

However, statistics being normal does not mean there is no danger. The impact on human lives and property depends not only on earthquake magnitude but also on depth, distance from cities, fault slip direction, soil conditions, and the vulnerability of structures. Shallow earthquakes near major cities can cause severe damage through landslides, liquefaction, fires, or tsunamis—potentially more damaging than large earthquakes occurring at greater depths and far away.

"Although Thailand does not sit directly on a major tectonic plate boundary, it is affected by the Sunda Trench subduction zone, fault movements in Myanmar, and various internal fault systems. Soft sedimentary basins like Bangkok and major cities across Thailand can amplify long-period seismic waves from distant earthquakes, causing tall buildings to sway noticeably. Therefore, we must be prepared to handle natural disasters using scientific knowledge to reduce unnecessary alarm," the researcher stated, adding that scientific understanding of earthquake causes and sources is essential.

Beauty Queen Charlotte Austin Leaves Management, Focuses on Self-Care

Charlotte Austin, Miss Grand Chumphon 2022, is leaving her management contract to handle her own career while focusing on mental health recovery from panic disorder through meditation and Buddhist practices.

Beauty Queen Charlotte Austin Leaves Management, Focuses on Self-Care
1d ago Khaosod

Charlotte Austin, a Thai-British beauty queen crowned Miss Grand Chumphon 2022 and fifth runner-up at Miss Grand Thailand 2022, has decided to manage her own career and will not renew her contract with Miss Grand International Public Company Limited.

Charlotte has opened up about her decision and revealed opportunities to collaborate with her close friend Ingfah Waraha, as well as her experience with panic disorder. Multiple entertainment industry figures have consulted her about managing anxiety.

**Have many industry people asked you about managing panic attacks?** Charlotte: "Yes, they ask how to stop relying on medication. I don't know if I'm 100% healed, but I can control myself now. I'm not stressed or anxious anymore, not caught in suspicion, and I don't panic at things that used to trigger me. It was a difficult journey to get here."

**What's your strategy when panic attacks happen?** Charlotte: "I listen to Buddhist teachings and try to visit temples. I take myself to calm places rather than crowded or stimulating ones like malls. I choose peaceful settings to relax so I don't feel afraid or suspicious of people."

**What was your worst period like?** Charlotte: "I didn't want to work or go anywhere—just stay home. After the rumor crisis two years ago, I was afraid people would come after me. But over time, I realized I hadn't done anything wrong. I cried at work, while driving, before and after work. I was angry at myself for not improving. Seeing myself change in videos made me realize I used to be so bright and cheerful. I wanted to get that person back, so I started working on myself."

**So it all comes down to your own mindset?** Charlotte: "Yes. Nobody can help you if you don't want to help yourself. Friends were there, but once they left, I fell back into old patterns—insomnia, stress. Nobody can be with you forever except yourself, so I had to fight for myself."

**Did you see the birthday wishes for your boss (Anucha Isiravakul)?** Charlotte: "I wished him happy birthday on Instagram and Line. He thanked me and responded. I was happy. I want him to know I love and respect him always. But we haven't seen each other since Ingfah's concert—I haven't been to the office or attended company events, so we haven't had a chance to meet in person."

**About your decision to manage yourself?** Charlotte: "My contract has 8-9 months left, ending around late April next year. I need to be ready. I've learned lessons and gained experience, so now I need to figure out how to handle managing myself 100%. It will be difficult with obstacles, but I'm asking everyone for their support.

The decision is made. I've discussed it with the company's assistant, and they said let's work together. We'll organize fan meetings so fans can see me and I can send them lots of love."

**Did you hesitate?** Charlotte: "We talked about it 3-4 times until I decided. It was a difficult decision. I didn't know what would happen. I asked my family too. I was stressed for 4-5 months about what to do. This place is like my home, but leaving isn't abandonment—it's growth. I can always come back, join events, meet, and talk. I love and respect my boss greatly as an elder. Even if I leave, I want to visit, collaborate, and congratulate him on special occasions. I want him to see I'm still his child."

**What about working with Ingfah?** Charlotte: "It depends on the management company. Once I'm not with the agency, there might be different terms and we might not be locked together. But personally, I'm willing and eager to keep working together because Ingfah is like a sister to me."
