Khon Kaen Hospital has clarified that the nurse and nursing aide who posted inappropriate comments online are not staff members of Khon Kaen Hospital. The hospital expressed condolences to the family of the deceased patient.

Following online criticism of medical staff at a Khon Kaen hospital after a woman posted that she had been waiting so long for treatment she was dying, a nurse replied with a curse telling the patient to go home and die. The woman later lost consciousness in a bathroom and subsequently died.

Dr. Thanasit Pairapong, director of Khon Kaen Hospital, revealed that a 50-year-old female patient was admitted to the emergency room with fever, chills, body aches, and a rash that had lasted three days. Doctors ordered blood and urine tests and admitted her as an inpatient. While hospitalized, the patient remained conscious but her fever did not subside. Doctors conducted blood cultures to identify bloodstream infection and administered continuous antibiotics along with X-rays.

On August 16 at approximately 4:00 a.m., staff found the patient unconscious in the bathroom. Doctors and nurses immediately provided care and detected abnormal vital signs. They intubated her and performed an emergency CT scan, which revealed brain bleeding with a large subdural hemorrhage causing brain stem compression and deterioration of her condition.

Doctors planned surgical intervention, but the patient had low blood pressure and high surgical mortality risk, making surgery impossible. Doctors informed the family of the cause and provided palliative care in the neurosurgical intensive care unit. The family later requested to take the patient home to die.

Regarding the online controversy about inappropriate comments from nursing staff, the hospital investigated and found that both the nurse and nursing aide involved were not employees of Khon Kaen Hospital.

The hospital expressed its condolences to the deceased's family and stated it continues to review and improve its service systems for the wellbeing of the public.

The Marine Police arrested a suspect associated with Siao Jo, a major illegal fuel smuggler, who jumped bail and fled to work as a crew member on a fishing boat in Krabi, ending a four-year fugitive manhunt.

On August 17, 2025, Marine Police Commander Pol. Lt. Gen. Setsathir Nippaya ordered Pol. Col. Kamolsak Wan Pradung and his team to apprehend Umaad (surname withheld), 64, under a warrant from Samut Prakan Provincial Court dated May 3, 2022, in case number 6/2565. He faces charges of conspiracy to conceal, distribute, transport, or receive illegally imported or exported goods in violation of customs law. Officers arrested him aboard a fishing vessel docked at the Krabi Fisheries Enforcement Center in Muang District.

The case dates back to 2022, when Marine Police initially arrested Umaad while he was transporting illegal fuel for Siao Jo's smuggling operation. Before his trial, Umaad filed for bail and deposited 300,000 baht as security. However, after his temporary release, he failed to appear in court and disappeared. Samut Prakan Provincial Court revoked his bail and issued a new arrest warrant.

While evading authorities, Umaad lived in hiding by working as a crew member on various fishing vessels to avoid detection. Investigators received a tip that someone matching his description was working aboard a boat in Krabi waters. They tracked him down, confirmed his identity, and arrested him on the spot. Umaad confessed to all charges and has been transferred to Samut Prakan Provincial Court for further legal proceedings.

A mother in Buriram is demanding justice after her 34-year-old son, Kittiphop Sathaisuang, died in a motorcycle crash while fleeing from police on August 13. The deceased had been riding a heavily modified motorcycle and panicked when police attempted to stop him, fearing a criminal record could jeopardize his job prospects in Israel. He lost control of the bike on a bend near Mafuang Intersection and crashed onto the roadside; an autopsy revealed multiple fractures. The mother questioned neighbors and learned that police had been pursuing her son closely before the accident, and she criticized the lack of official explanation from authorities.

Phuthai Saong Police Station Commander Nopphon Thunthasee responded to the allegations, saying officers spotted an obviously modified motorcycle and attempted to check it for illegal activity. When the rider fled at high speed, police felt obligated to pursue him as per standard procedure, unaware of any potential threat. He denied claims that police deliberately rammed the motorcycle, noting that the patrol vehicle showed no signs of collision damage.

Evidence examination officials from Buriram found that the deceased's motorcycle had multiple modifications and critically lacked a rear brake system. This mechanical failure is believed to be the primary cause of the crash when the rider encountered a pothole and could not slow down or regain control. Police say they are still gathering evidence and statements to determine further legal action.

The first day of candidate registration for Nonthaburi Provincial Administrator passed with no candidates filing, on August 17. The race is to replace Police Major General Thongchai Yen Prasert, the previous administrator, who was shot dead. The election is scheduled for September 20. Registration runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the provincial administration office in Bang Krasoai, Muang Nonthaburi, through August 21. Support groups gathered outside but were kept away from the registration area. No political faction submitted a candidate on the first day. Vibhavaly Vorawanpricha, former secretary to the previous administrator, revealed that on August 18 at 8:30 a.m., Nuraphand Yen Prasert, 57, known as "Tee" and the grandson of Police Major General Thongchai Yen Prasert, will file as a candidate representing the Royal Bee group. The Democrat Party is fielding Dechart Sukkagennid, party deputy leader and director of the Democrat Party's Forward Policy Center, a former economics lecturer at Kasetsart University, who will register on August 20.
