Thailand's Corruption Court postponed a hearing in a fraud case against Election Commission Chairman Nrong Klanyvarinthorn and seven other officials accused of adding unnecessary QR codes to ballots, rescheduling the decision to October 7.

Court Delays Ruling in Election Commission Chief Fraud Case
11 Aug Khaosod

On August 11, 2025, the Corruption Court postponed a hearing on the indictment in case number Aor. 31/2569, brought by Adm. Chakrapong Sawaegsathit against EC Chairman Nrong Klanyvarinthorn, seven other officials, and the EC secretary-general. All eight defendants are accused of official misconduct or breach of duty under Section 157 of the Criminal Code, combined with provisions of the Election Commission Organization Act (Section 69), the House of Representatives Election Act (Section 149), and the Anti-Corruption Act (Section 172). The defendants allegedly conspired to order the printing of QR codes on green ballots for constituency elections and barcodes on pink party-list ballots. Prosecutors argue this added unnecessary cost and complexity to ballot verification, lacked transparency, and undermined the secrecy of the voting process for all Thai citizens. The court rescheduled the hearing to October 7, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. This is the fourth postponement since the case was originally set for March 17, then moved to May 19, then August 11.

Egg Hoarding Pushes Prices to 6.20 Baht Per Unit

Middlemen are hoarding eggs and panic-buying, pushing prices to 6.20 baht per unit despite adequate production, according to the Central Region Small-Scale Layer Chicken Traders Association in Thailand.

Egg Hoarding Pushes Prices to 6.20 Baht Per Unit
11 Aug Khaosod

Egg farmers say middlemen are panic-buying and stockpiling eggs, driving up prices to 6.20 baht per unit, even as production remains adequate. According to Payao Arikul, chair of the Central Region Small-Scale Layer Chicken Traders Association, egg production has declined by 30 percent due to disease outbreaks and erratic weather, not actual shortages. Middlemen have increased orders by 20 percent, fearing further price hikes, which has created the appearance of scarcity in some retail outlets. Farm-gate prices have hit 4 baht per egg, matching levels seen during the 2011 Bangkok floods, but prices are expected to fall once farms control disease and demand drops during the vegetarian festival season in two months. The Commerce Ministry's "Thai Eggs Help Thailand" program, selling eggs 10 percent below market price, is addressing symptoms rather than root causes and may squeeze small traders at wet markets who have higher overhead costs. Market surveys at Prachanives Market confirm eggs are still available, though wholesalers are reducing shipments to retailers and citing shortages. Current prices are 6.20 baht for size 0, 5.80 baht for size 1, and 5.20 baht for size 2 eggs.

Nonthaburi Health Officials Fine Ex-Official for Smoking in Government Office
11 Aug Khaosod

Nonthaburi Provincial Health Office has fined both Chalerm Riawyaeng, a former Nonthaburi provincial official, and Rattanathepisek Police Station for smoking in a government building, with penalties of 5,000 baht and 3,000 baht respectively. On August 11, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., photos emerged showing Chalerm smoking in an office at Rattanathepisek Police Station while investigators were conducting an interrogation. This violated the Tobacco Product Control Act of 2017 and public health ministry regulations that designate all public places, workplaces, and government offices as smoke-free zones. Dr. Yuttana Homkaet, a health sciences specialist with Nonthaburi Provincial Health Office, explained that his department filed charges under the Tobacco Control Act, penalizing both the individual and the police station under Articles 40 and 42. The office reviewed the social media images, verified the allegation, and confirmed the violation. Officials stressed this was not selective enforcement, noting that any citizen can report smoking violations in public or government areas, and the same penalties apply to all offenders: 5,000 baht for individuals and 3,000 baht for government facilities, which represent the maximum fines allowed. The provincial health office has already collected the penalties and issued receipts to both parties.

Police from the Anti-Corruption Division (ÁÇ.2) on August 11, 2025, transported two large boxes of case documents comprising 10 files—totaling over 3,000 pages—to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) for investigation and legal action. The case involves 13 suspects accused of fraud in local government recruitment exams.

Investigators revealed that if the NACC decides to investigate the case independently, the case will remain under NACC authority. If the NACC refers the case back, the Anti-Corruption Division will resume prosecution. No fixed timeline exists for such cases, and previously the NACC has returned cases to investigators with only 1–2 weeks remaining before the statute of limitations expires.

The 13 suspects are divided into two groups: 11 local government officials arrested while altering answer sheets at a private company in Nonthaburi province, facing eight charges including misconduct in office, document forgery, and computer data fraud; and two senior officials—Theerutm Suphavibulyapol, former director-general of the Department of Local Administration, and Associate Professor Rueangdet Sirikij, director of the Educational and Psychological Testing Center at Srinakharinwirot University—facing six charges including misconduct, forging official documents, and falsifying official records.

Young singer Win Weekin appeared at a special screening of "Confession of a Witch Doctor" at PARADE SQUARE in the ONE BANGKOK complex, where he spoke enthusiastically about his recent releases. His debut single, which featured actress Pey Panwat in the music video, exceeded expectations in terms of public response, while his second single has been gradually gaining traction. Win also revealed that his third single has been fully shot, with a significant shift in direction. "I wanted to break away from my image as a sad-song artist," he explained. "This is a fun love song with dance moves and surprises that fans will see for the first time. It drops on September 3rd."

When asked about his current projects, Win said: "After the first single, the response was quite good, especially with Pey Panwat on board. The second single is doing even better. Most of the comments I get suggest people want something more upbeat after two sad songs."

Regarding his third single, Win shared: "The music video is already finished. I'm performing in it myself, and the label assigned an actress to work with me. I want to keep her identity a surprise for now."

Asked about the tone of the new MV, Win explained: "It's completely different from before. People know me as a sad-song artist, but this is an upbeat love song with dancing and surprises. It comes out September 3rd."

When addressed about comparisons to other artists like Ben Chalatit and Petch Sarathorn—whom he openly admires—Win responded positively: "I like that comparison. I actually admire Ben already, and when the news came out, he even shared it and liked my posts. That made me really happy."

On whether he might collaborate with them someday, Win said: "I think there's a possibility. I really admire Ben, but honestly, my new song is different. It's upbeat and fun, nothing like his style. Maybe we just have similar faces, but we're actually quite different as artists."

Autopsy Shows Nonthaburi Administrator Shot in Neck
11 Aug Khaosod

Forensic pathologists have released preliminary autopsy results for Thongchai Yen Prasert, the Nonthaburi Provincial Administration Organization (PAO) chairman, who was shot and killed outside the PAO office. The initial findings show that death resulted from a gunshot wound that severed a major artery in the neck, causing massive blood loss. This is consistent with Phra Nang Klao Hospital's urgent call for 30 units of blood during emergency treatment. On August 11, 2026, Lt. Col. Wirun Supsing Siripricha, director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police Hospital, disclosed progress in the autopsy of Thongchai, who died after being shot by Chaloong Riao Raeng outside the PAO office. Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that death was caused by a gunshot wound that severed the carotid artery in the neck, resulting in massive bleeding and subsequent death. Examination of the body revealed both embedded and exit gunshot wounds. The forensic director declined to specify the exact number of wounds or bullet entry points, reserving those details for the investigating officers. When asked about the hospital's urgent appeal for 30 blood units during resuscitation efforts, the forensic director said this was plausible given the severity of the carotid artery wound, which causes rapid and massive blood loss. He could not provide specific details about the medical treatment procedures used at the time. The institute has completed the autopsy and the body is ready to be released to the family for religious rites. The family has not requested additional special examinations. Standard autopsy procedures have been completed, and the institute will expedite its final report and submit preliminary medical findings to the investigating officers for use in legal proceedings.

Thailand's U17 football coach has completed two training camps while scouting talent for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers in November, with a third camp planned for September to finalize the squad.

Thailand U17 Coach Eyes Best Squad for Asian Qualifier
11 Aug Khaosod

Coach Waspol Kaewphluek, head coach of Thailand's under-17 national football team, has completed two training camps in preparation for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2027 qualifying tournament. The coaching staff submitted a summary report to the Football Association of Thailand.

Kaewphluek explained that the two camps aimed to give players maximum opportunity and explore talent across multiple positions and schools. "The first and second camps featured largely different rosters," he said. "Going forward, we'll continue monitoring player form through the current PE Department U16 competition and the Coke Cup Thailand championship rounds. We'll combine data from both camps and match performances to select the best, most-prepared players who fit our tactical approach."

The coach noted that this month's U16 and Coke Cup championship matches run through late August, so the planned third camp will take place in September. He acknowledged that in two camps, players demonstrated strong commitment and drive to represent Thailand, though refinement is needed given that many players from different schools joined only recently. "The third camp should feature players ready to execute deeper tactical instructions and better understand our team's playing direction," Kaewphluek said.

Regarding the AFC U17 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2027 qualifiers, scheduled for November 8–20, the coach expressed hope for a favorable draw and enthusiasm about hosting matches before Thai fans. "No match is easy, and we must prepare thoroughly through quality camps to get players in peak condition." The qualifying tournament will send seven group champions to the main tournament in Uzbekistan (May 12–29, 2027), where eight Asian teams will compete for spots at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar.

During the event, participants will visit botanical and entomology laboratories where researchers Dr. Ratchuporn Suksathan and Dr. Kalyakorn Pirayakul present insights on plant product development and insect-plant-ecosystem relationships. Tours include the natural history museum, plant tower, and heritage greenhouses showcasing rare and endemic species, while participants plant purple heart trees under the theme "Sharing Love and Care in the Queen's Garden" to honor conservation efforts. An additional highlight is a guided nature study trail on ginger family plants, ancient ferns, and arboretum sections, where Dr. Sarayut Rak-acha explains botanical knowledge and introduces the "Botanical Wellness" concept linking nature, science, and wellbeing to develop wellness tourism.

BGO Open House 2026 represents a key step in transforming research into practical applications, building networks across academia, government, and business, and positioning Thailand's biological resources as value-added products, services, and tourism experiences.
