On September 16, a group of alternate senators led by Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamrop Pannakaew filed a petition with the Supreme Court's Electoral Division to overturn the Election Commission's decision on alleged irregularities in the Senate election. The commission's September 14 ruling dismissed numerous allegations, citing insufficient evidence, but the alternate senators contend the investigation was one-sided and failed to examine circumstantial evidence and network links.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamrop stated that the commission wrongly focused on individual criminal liability while overlooking Section 62 of the Organic Act, which requires action when credible evidence shows Senate members were elected dishonestly. The group argues the commission violated Section 32 of the Act by failing to ensure fair elections and seeks the court to overturn the ruling and order a reinvestigation of 138 senators implicated in the alleged fraud scheme.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamrop criticized the commission's attempt to shift blame to its subcommittee, arguing that leadership must take responsibility for decisions made. He expressed hope the court will accept the petition and establish a fact-finding panel to review the commission's ruling, noting the group had anticipated this legal challenge and prepared accordingly.
