BEM Opens Solar Farm to Transport Authority Officials
BEM opened its solar farm facilities to transit authority officials, showcasing renewable energy projects that generate power for MRT lines and reduce annual emissions by roughly 6,000 tonnes as part of Thailand's net-zero 2050 commitment.
Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited, operator of the BEM expressway service and the blue and purple MRT lines, hosted a visit from the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand. Alvin G, BEM deputy managing director, and senior management welcomed Withaya Panmongkol, deputy governor of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority, during a tour of BEM's major solar energy project. The initiative aligns with government policy to advance Thailand toward a low-carbon society, targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
During the visit, the authority's team received briefings on operational approaches and management of solar power systems across various locations, including solar farms and rooftop installations that supply electricity to the blue MRT line, and solar carpark systems that power the Rama 9 administrative building. Combined, these facilities span over 23 rai and reduce carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 6,000 tonnes annually. The study visit provided an important opportunity to exchange ideas and experience in clean energy management, and to explore ways of deploying solar power efficiently and sustainably. BEM's business strategy prioritizes sustainable growth, resource efficiency, and energy optimization while operating responsibly toward the environment and society.
