Aluminium Factory Fire Destroys Myanmar Worker's Gold and Cash

A fire destroyed an aluminium manufacturing plant in Samut Sakhon on Wednesday, incinerating a Myanmar worker's life savings of 200,000 baht and 152 grammes of gold kept at his workstation.

3h ago Khaosod

SAMUT SAKHON — A massive fire ripped through an aluminium manufacturing plant in Samut Sakhon province on Wednesday, destroying the life savings of a Myanmar worker who kept gold and cash at his workstation.

At about 10:00 on Wednesday, the radio centre at Krathum Baen Police Station received reports of a fire at an aluminium manufacturing company in Moo 1, Tha Sao subdistrict, Krathum Baen district, Samut Sakhon. More than 10 fire engines from the Tha Sao Subdistrict Administrative Organisation and nearby municipalities responded to the blaze.

Krathum Baen District Chief Phirunrot Nakdontree directed the emergency response as incident commander alongside Krathum Baen police superintendent Pol. Col. Phasapong Monta, Tha Sao SAO president Wallop Thongphat and Deputy Investigating Officer Sub-Lt. Natthiphat Naksang.

The factory, which manufactures steel rebar, aluminium sheets and custom aluminium castings, covers more than 10 rai (16,000 square metres). The industrial complex comprises four warehouse buildings.

The fire broke out in the fourth warehouse at the rear of the compound, an area covering slightly more than one rai used for processing and moulding aluminium sheets. The intense heat caused parts of the roof and structural framework to collapse, damaging machinery and manufacturing equipment. No injuries or deaths were reported.

A Myanmar supervisor at the factory pleaded with firefighters to let him enter the damaged warehouse to search for 10 baht-weight of gold bullion, approximately 152 grammes, and 200,000 baht in cash kept in a bag inside his desk drawer. However, neither the cash nor the gold could be recovered.

Phirunrot ordered the Tha Sao SAO to close the damaged warehouse and designate it a hazardous area off-limits to the public until further notice. He also instructed local authorities to work with forensic experts from the Forensic Science Division and other agencies to investigate the cause of the fire.

Police seize illegal whitening serums worth 22 million baht

Authorities seized over 22 million baht worth of illegal skin-whitening serums registered as cosmetics to bypass drug controls, with products supplied to Bangkok beauty clinics for dangerous injectable treatments.

3h ago Khaosod

BANGKOK — 20 May 2026, Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau and the Food and Drug Administration have raided locations linked to an illegal skin-whitening serum operation accused of registering injectable products as cosmetics to evade stricter drug controls.

Authorities seized more than 35,000 items worth over 22 million baht (£470,000), including cosmetics, unregistered medicines and medical devices, during searches at a beauty clinic, a storage facility and a residence in Bangkok, police said on Wednesday.

The operation followed complaints from members of the public and Thailand's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about a cosmetic brand allegedly being misused by mixing it with saline solution for injection into the body. The products were promoted online and supplied to cosmetic clinics, investigators said.

Police said the investigation found that the product owner had hired a Thai company to manufacture glutathione-based substances, commonly marketed for skin whitening, but registered them as cosmetics rather than medicines because cosmetic approval procedures were easier.

The products were then allegedly sold to aesthetic clinics as injectable glutathione treatments and falsely marketed as imported goods. According to authorities, clinics used the products for skin-enhancing injections administered to clients.

Investigators said those involved would face charges under multiple laws covering cosmetics, medical devices and pharmaceuticals. Potential offences include importing cosmetics without Thai-language labelling, false or incomplete product labels, imports that bypassed FDA checkpoints, selling unlicensed medical devices and distributing medicines without approval or registration.

Supatra Boonserm, secretary-general of Thailand's FDA, said offenders had exploited the easier cosmetic registration process instead of seeking drug approval.

"They were promoted as imported products or injectable skin vitamins," she said. "Using products in ways that differ from their approved purpose is extremely dangerous because they have not undergone safety assessment for injection into the body."

She urged clinics, hospitals and consumers to scrutinise labels and verify injectable products carefully, warning that products intended for injection are classified as high-risk and must undergo rigorous evaluation for safety, quality and effectiveness.

Central Investigation Bureau Commissioner Lt. Gen. Natsak Chewnasai said the operation aimed to prevent potentially serious harm to the public.

"Cosmetics are designed to be applied, not injected," he said. "Injecting unapproved and non-standard products into the body exposes consumers to risks including bloodstream infections and severe allergic reactions."

Sirikanya Exposes Government Sneaking 18 Billion Baht Borrowed Funds into Welfare Card Distribution

Deputy Pheu Thai MP Sirikanya Tansukul alleged the government improperly diverted 18.8 billion baht from emergency relief borrowing to fund welfare card benefits that should come from regular budgets, accusing authorities of misusing crisis

3h ago Khaosod

May 20, 2026 – Sirikanya Tansukul, a Pheu Thai party list MP and deputy party leader, posted a message with images on Facebook regarding the Cabinet's approval of the 'Thailand Helps Thailand Plus' project. The attached documents showed that under a 400 billion baht borrowing decree, approximately 18.8 billion baht was allocated to a program supporting low-income earners holding state welfare cards—roughly 13 million people—to continue receiving state welfare benefits through the end of fiscal year 2569.

Sirikanya accused the government of improperly redirecting emergency relief funds into regular operating expenses. She alleged that the 18.8 billion baht, which should have come from standard annual budgets, was secretly diverted from the People's Fund. According to Cabinet resolutions, these welfare benefits—such as 300 baht assistance payments, utility costs, and transportation allowances—should normally be funded from regular annual budgets and have nothing to do with energy crisis relief.

She noted that because the government budgeted only 30 billion baht when 50 billion baht was actually needed, there wasn't enough money for welfare payments in fiscal 2569. "It's bold of the government to use 200 billion baht in emergency energy crisis relief loans to cover regular government expenses, which should normally come from annual operating budgets," Sirikanya stated. "This clearly deviates from the original purpose. So the question is: was this loan meant to help suffering citizens, or to solve the government's budget problem?"

Stressed Parents Rush to Bank After Child Shreds Thousands in Cash Into Confetti

A toddler in China shredded thousands of yuan into confetti, prompting desperate parents to bring the fragments to their bank, where staff spent five hours carefully reconstructing and exchanging the full amount for new bills.

3h ago Khaosod

An unusual incident occurred in Liuyang, Zhejiang Province, China, when a young child tore up household banknotes without understanding the consequences, reducing a large sum of cash into paper scraps. Some pieces were so small it was nearly impossible to identify which part of the bill they belonged to. Seeing the state of their money, the distressed parents decided to bring all the shredded fragments to their bank for help.

Multiple bank employees worked together to restore the bills, starting by sorting the fragments by denomination, color, and design pattern, then carefully comparing and piecing together each scrap of paper. Bank staff revealed that the difficulty lay in the sheer quantity of fragments and the fact that many were torn into long strips. Even a slight assembly error could render the bills unusable, requiring everyone to exercise considerable patience and concentration. The entire process took nearly five hours.

Ultimately, the employees successfully reconstructed all 4,100 yuan (approximately 19,000 baht) in banknotes and exchanged them for new bills in full. After the story circulated online, many netizens joked that "you can just look at their faces and tell how stressed the parents are," while others praised the dedication and professionalism of the bank staff.

The bank has issued a reminder to the public that damaged banknotes should not be discarded. If more than half of the bill remains intact and is verified as genuine currency, citizens can exchange it for new banknotes at their bank free of charge.

Arsenal Legend Thierry Henry Opens Up About First Premier League Title in 22 Years

Arsenal claimed their first Premier League title in 22 years after Manchester City failed to win against Bournemouth, with legend Thierry Henry praising manager Mikel Arteta's transformative impact on the club.

3h ago Khaosod

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has expressed his deep emotions following the Gunners' Premier League championship victory this season—their first title in 22 years.

Arsenal has officially secured the 2024-25 Premier League title despite one final match remaining, after second-place Manchester City could only draw 1-1 with Bournemouth. With 82 points from 37 matches, Arsenal leads third-place Chelsea by 4 points, which cannot be overcome. This marks their first Premier League title in 22 years.

Henry, who was part of Arsenal's last championship-winning squad in 2003-04, spoke emotionally about the achievement: "Twenty-two years... a long 22 years of waiting, dreams, suffering, hope, and belief. Think about it—today Arsenal are Premier League champions again. And honestly, this feels different. It's full of emotion."

"I know what this football club means to people. I know what the fans have been through. People mocked Arsenal, people ridiculed the club, questioned the players, questioned the process, questioned whether this team could ever reach the top again. But they never stopped believing."

"And I must say... without Mikel Arteta, this would not have been possible. What he has done for this football club is incredible. He has brought back identity, discipline, connection with the fans, and most importantly, belief. He suffered, he learned, he was strong under pressure, and today he deserves all the credit."

"I must also pay respect to Jorge Kronke and Stan Kronke, because they believed in the manager when many wanted change. They backed the project, they were patient, and today they are seeing the rewards of that trust."

"To every player... thank you. You gave everything for this badge. You fought for each other, for the fans, and for the history of this football club."

"And to Arsenal fans around the world... enjoy this moment. Celebrate with your family, with friends, with everyone who has remained loyal over these years. Because tonight, Arsenal are back where they belong. Champions of England once again."

Sikao Says Global Liverpool Fans Should Give Slot a Chance to Build Next Season's Team

Former Thai footballer Sikao Giatsakdi urges Liverpool fans to give manager Arne Slot another season to build a cohesive team, citing financial costs of termination and uncertainty over replacements.

3h ago Khaosod

Sikao Giatsakdi Senamuang, former Thai national team striker and devoted Liverpool supporter, has weighed in on global fan calls for manager Arne Slot's removal following disappointing results this season. At the launch event of Liverpool's latest 2026/27 home kit at Siam Discovery's Land Discovery Plaza, Sikao addressed the topic when asked for his opinion as a longtime Reds fan about the push to replace the manager.

Sikao explained that this has been a difficult year for the club. While Liverpool won the championship last season, they faced significant challenges this year, including the death of Diogo Jota and integrating expensive new signings with high expectations attached. He noted that typically when other clubs bring in new players at premium prices, they perform well immediately, but Liverpool's situation has been different—when performances falter, the team reverts to relying on older players and other options. This lack of harmony throughout the season has ultimately fallen on the manager's shoulders, he said, adding that the new season will be important to assess.

On whether Slot should be replaced, Sikao advocated for patience: "Personally, I think he deserves a chance. Terminating a contract comes with significant financial costs, and we'd need to evaluate if it's worth it. Even if we bring in someone new, who can guarantee they'll be better? Yes, if we listen to fan sentiment, many would prefer he wasn't there. But if we look at it objectively, if a change doesn't work out, we'd have to change again, like other rival clubs have done. That's something to consider too."

Drug Trafficking Gang Busted: Police Seize 8.9 Million Methamphetamine Pills from Rental House in Pathum Thani, Four Suspects Arrested

Police arrested four suspects and seized 8.9 million methamphetamine pills from two rental houses in Pathum Thani following a tip about large-scale drug smuggling operations originating from Saraburi.

3h ago Khaosod

Police from Region 1 Drug Suppression Division raided a rental house and arrested four drug suspects—two men and two women—uncovering a massive shipment of 8.9 million methamphetamine pills that were being held before distribution to their network.

On May 20, 2025, Pol. Col. Kraisorn Sriampon, commander of the Saraburi Provincial Police and Region 1 Drug Suppression Division, led officers to search a suspect house without an address in Ku Khot Subdistrict, Lam Luk Ka District, Pathum Thani. Acting on an informant's tip that large quantities of drugs from Saraburi were being stored in the area, officers discovered 8 million methamphetamine pills, one handgun, and one explosive device.

Four suspects were arrested: Wirojn, 42, from Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani; Watcharapong, 31, from Tha Toom District, Surin; Parichad, 21, from Bang Na, Bangkok; and Panatda, 26, a Laotian national.

Initial interrogation revealed that Wirojn orchestrated large-scale drug smuggling operations from Saraburi, storing drugs temporarily before distribution. A second search of a rental house in Prachatipat Subdistrict, Thanyaburi District, Pathum Thani—used as another storage location—yielded an additional 900,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside.

Suspects confessed to receiving drugs from Saraburi using a white panel pickup truck with Chonburi license plates, with a red Toyota Yaris (Bangkok plates) used for surveillance of drug storage routes. Most of the drugs were kept at the Ku Khot housing area because the Thanyaburi rental house was in a narrow soi. Authorities are continuing to investigate and pursue dismantling the entire drug network.
