Amnat Charoen Senators Plan Complaint Against iLaw Director
Two Amnat Charoen senators plan to file a police complaint against iLaw director Yingluck Atjarnnon over allegations they lack qualifications, which the Election Commission already rejected twice.
On July 28, 2025, Senator Somphon Phlagsak responded to allegations posted by Yingluck Atjarnnon, director of the Internet for People Law project (iLaw), claiming that Somphon and Senator Daeng Kongma of Amnat Charoen province lack qualifications to serve as Group 10 senators. Somphon stated the allegations are more than two years old and were already rejected by the Election Commission, which found both senators fully qualified.
Somphon directed critics to Election Commission Ruling 249/2567, which dismissed claims that Daeng lacked qualifications, and Election Commission Ruling 17/2568, which similarly ruled in his favor. Both rulings confirmed the senators' substantial work experience and found no evidence of legal violations.
Somphon criticized Yingluck for misinterpreting the definition of Group 10 senators and accused him of creating public confusion with insinuations. He stated that both he and Daeng plan to file a police complaint against Yingluck for causing reputational damage, especially since they have already been vetted and certified by the Election Commission. Somphon noted they lack funding for legal battles unlike the iLaw group and have no plans to file additional cases, as they are aware they would need to travel to multiple provinces.
Somphon further criticized Yingluck as a political leader and law graduate for failing to properly verify information before posting and for seemingly disrespecting other professions. He questioned whether Yingluck's team advised him to create low-quality content and whether they receive foreign funding, which Yingluck has acknowledged. Somphon suggested that if a team did advise such content, they should be dismissed, as it damages the reputation of foreign NGOs supporting iLaw.
