Thailand's Aviation Authority Deploys AI and Big Data System
3 Aug Khaosod

Thailand's Aeronautical Radio of Thailand (Aeronautical Radio of Thailand) is accelerating development of its Big Data and artificial intelligence system to integrate aviation data across domestic and international agencies, boosting air traffic management efficiency. Deputy Transport Minister Phatrapong Patpraset stated that the government prioritizes using data as a foundation for national governance, as quality information enables accurate, transparent policy decisions and responsive service delivery. The organization has been assigned to rapidly develop a Big Data management system and apply AI technology to link aviation data among relevant domestic and international agencies, creating a shared data ecosystem for multi-sector use.

Data integration will enable air traffic planning and decisions based on accurate, timely information, elevating safety standards, improving service efficiency, and strengthening Thailand's position as a future regional aviation center. Surachai Nupprom, acting chief executive of Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, said the organization is currently developing a Big Data aviation management system that collects and connects critical data including flight information, aircraft target data, and flight route data, along with aviation infrastructure information to support operations across all dimensions.

The data is being used to analyze runway utilization patterns, analyze aircraft holding areas, track aircraft movements both on ground and in flight, develop air traffic engineering system maps, analyze flight trends, forecast airspace usage, predict air traffic volumes, and plan resources to reduce delays, improve air traffic management efficiency, and raise safety standards. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand has also created a five-year Data Roadmap to standardize organizational data, enable efficient exchange and shared use with partner agencies, and support AI application and advanced data analytics. The Big Data system is therefore not merely a data storage system but critical infrastructure linking aviation agencies, supporting joint decision-making, improving air traffic management efficiency, and generating value across the country's aviation system for safety, modernization, and future readiness.

Local Exam Fraud Probe Nearly Complete, PM Says
3 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul stated at the Interior Ministry on August 3 that the fraud investigation into local government entrance exams is complete in terms of government action. All procedural steps—including accusations, prosecution, and serious disciplinary investigations—have been concluded, and the cancellation of test results has been carried out. The government has also taken steps to hold accountable those involved in the scheme. Anutin emphasized that the only remaining step is for the courts to hand down sentences against those responsible, as that falls outside the government's jurisdiction. When asked whether the case would be wrapped up this week, he deferred to the Interior Ministry, noting that various committees must still meet. He stressed that the government has fulfilled all its obligations and directed questions about the timeline to the Interior Ministry.

Thai Tourism Rebounds for Mother's Day with Japan Leading Bookings

Thai flight searches surged 86% ahead of Mother's Day as travelers regain confidence following fuel price stabilization, with Japan leading international bookings.

Thai Tourism Rebounds for Mother's Day with Japan Leading Bookings
3 Aug Khaosod

AirAsia MOVE has released travel data showing that Thai tourists are recovering and becoming more enthusiastic about booking trips ahead of Mother's Day. Flight search volume jumped 86% on average daily from July 7-16, 2025 compared to the February 28-June 30 period, which had been dampened by geopolitical tensions affecting travel confidence and costs.

The July surge occurred after the Thai government stepped up monitoring and management of domestic fuel prices, following several adjustments in early July. Although oil prices remained volatile later in the month, the 86% increase in flight searches signals that Thai travelers are regaining confidence to explore destinations and plan future trips, even amid lingering travel cost uncertainty.

While not all flight searches convert directly to bookings, the data reflects shifting traveler interest and destination considerations for upcoming holidays. For Mother's Day (August 12-16, 2025), Thailand's travelers are considering more diverse destinations.

Domestically, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Nan, and Surat Thani are seeing increased interest for family trips and short breaks. Internationally, Japan continues to lead, followed by Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Taiwan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, and the Maldives.

Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo remain Japan's most-searched cities. Vietnam's Da Nang and Hoi An are gaining popularity. Thai domestic destinations like Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Hat Yai maintain steady interest.

Thai secondary cities are emerging as appealing options for travelers seeking beach holidays, nature escapes, cultural experiences, and alternatives to major tourist hubs. Travel continues to unite people across all generations, particularly around family-oriented occasions like Mother's Day.

Government Open to Extending Thai Help Plus Program

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the government is open to extending the Thai Help Plus subsidy program if it benefits the public, following feedback from residents at Si Yan Market.

Government Open to Extending Thai Help Plus Program
3 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed on August 3 at the Interior Ministry that after surveying Si Yan Market the previous day, he received feedback from residents wanting the government to extend the Thai Help Plus program. He stated that if the measure benefits the public, the government is ready to consider it, though it must weigh the appropriateness of the timing. Anutin stressed that his government is not populist and seeks to help citizens stand on their own feet, but will roll out economic stimulus measures in phases as needed.

When asked about problems found during the market survey, the Prime Minister turned the question back on reporters, asking if they found the program useful and satisfactory. Responding to a Nida Poll showing that while people see the program as beneficial, some remain hesitant to support the current government, Anutin said that is fine because the government still has three years for the public to judge its sincerity and commitment.

The Prime Minister cannot judge his own performance; the public will be the final arbiter of whether to return the government to power and how much they benefit from it, Anutin said. When asked if the program could be expanded or budgets increased in the future, he deferred the question to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas.

In a lighter moment, when journalists mentioned Anutin's casual appearance at yesterday's market visit, he joked that the breeze was cool and the powder helped with the heat.

Thai PM Anuthin Unfazed by No-Confidence Motion
3 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul said on August 3 that the opposition's plan to file a no-confidence motion against the government in August is routine parliamentary procedure and nothing to be surprised about. He praised the opposition for performing its duty to scrutinize the government thoroughly, noting that if the government does nothing wrong, there is nothing to worry about.

When asked if he was satisfied with ministerial performance over the past three months, Anuthin deflected by saying the public should be asked rather than himself, as he would naturally be biased. He noted that even former Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha faced no-confidence motions within 3-4 months of taking office, and that this is not unusual.

Concerning the local civil service exam corruption scandal, Anuthin stated that all actions are transparent and proceeding methodically. He said several people have already been imprisoned, cases are progressing, and exam results have been invalidated. Multiple agencies including the National Anti-Corruption Commission, the Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission, the Financial Intelligence Unit, and police are involved. Those suspected of involvement have been moved out of positions of authority, and he expressed confidence the public can trust the process due to the involvement of independent agencies. When asked if the opposition might raise unrelated issues like Senate disputes, Anuthin questioned the relevance, noting the Senate was elected in 2567 while this government took office on April 1, 2569. He declined to impose limits on opposition speakers during the debate.

Thailand Leads ASEAN-China Trade Deal Upgrade to Take Effect This Year

3 Aug Khaosod

Thailand's Commerce Ministry is chairing negotiations on the ASEAN-China free trade agreement, with both sides targeting full implementation of the upgraded ACFTA 3.0 by the end of 2024. Deputy Director-General Umapon Futtrakul of the International Trade Negotiation Department was assigned by Director-General Chotima Eamswaddikul to lead the ASEAN delegation alongside Lin Feng, director-general of China's Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs, at the 17th ASEAN-China Free Trade Area Joint Committee (ACFTA-JC) meeting on July 23–24, 2024, conducted via videoconference.

This is the first ACFTA-JC meeting in three years since 2022, as ASEAN and China have been negotiating to upgrade the trade framework to ACFTA 3.0. Both sides have agreed the upgraded pact will take effect within 2024 to allow ASEAN and China's leaders to announce success at the ASEAN-China Summit scheduled for November 2024. Seven ASEAN member states, including Thailand, have already completed their domestic ratification processes, and once China finishes, the protocol will take effect within 60 days, enabling businesses to benefit from the modernized and streamlined ACFTA framework.

The meeting also reviewed progress on key ACFTA commitments, including updating tariff schedules to the HS 2022 standard and developing an electronic Certificate of Origin exchange system (EODES) to reduce paperwork and processing time for origin verification. Thailand is currently discussing the system's development with China. Discussions also covered allocation of funding from a China-backed development fund to support ASEAN economic cooperation initiatives and prepare for new ACFTA 3.0 areas such as digital trade, green trade, and supply chain connectivity.

China has been ASEAN's top trading partner for 16 consecutive years. In 2023, ASEAN-China trade totaled $916.15 billion, up 18.59 percent year-on-year, with Thailand ranking as China's third-largest trading partner in ASEAN after Vietnam and Malaysia. In the first three months of 2024, ASEAN-China bilateral trade reached $238.45 billion, with ASEAN exports to China valued at $77.48 billion and imports from China at $160.97 billion. ASEAN's key exports include electrical machinery and components, nuclear reactors and parts, mineral fuels, steel, and edible fruits and nuts, while main imports include electrical machinery, reactors, plastics, steel, and vehicles and automotive components.
