Police sealed off an area in Dong Yang, Kut Khaeng District, Mukdahan Province on the evening of August 7 after a 34-year-old man identified as Mr. Lee barricaded himself in the upper floor of his home with two firearms. Officers from Mukdahan City Police Station and provincial police attempted to apprehend him on the lower floor, but he fled upstairs and locked himself inside. Authorities deployed over 50 officers and established a security perimeter to prevent danger to the public.
According to his mother, the man had been complaining and muttering to himself for two days before the incident. She grew concerned for the family's safety and asked his younger brother to sleep elsewhere. On the day of the incident, he became frustrated and accused the family of fearing him despite claiming he had done nothing wrong. This stress triggered the barricade situation. Officers attempted negotiations while the man remained locked in his room, shouting and protesting throughout the nearly five-hour standoff. As of reporting, he had not surrendered to police, and officers maintained a containment perimeter to prevent him from leaving the building.
