The Army Dog Center of the Royal Thai Army's Armed Animals Department on September 29 clarified the facts surrounding the death of Sergeant Worratchot (surname withheld), a radio operator with the unit, who died in the quarters on September 16. The 27-year-old serviceman from Prachuap Khiri Khan province had a history of depression.
The center stated that depression is a health condition requiring appropriate care and treatment, and when there is a risk of self-harm, proper medical and expert assessment is necessary. The unit coordinated with the serviceman's family to arrange treatment at Pak Chong Nana Hospital and Pramongkutklao Hospital on an ongoing basis. The unit emphasized that all personnel and commanders have been instructed to pay closer attention to the living conditions and mental health of staff, with an open door for consultation and support.
The center confirmed its commitment to prioritizing the welfare and physical and mental health of its personnel, implementing appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents. The unit conducted a dignified funeral and processed compensation and support in accordance with government regulations.
