Bodies Of Mother And Child Found After Truck Swept Into Floodwaters
A mother and daughter were found dead after their pickup truck was swept into floodwaters in Kanchanaburi province on September 27; rescue teams recovered the bodies two days later from debris-clogged channels nearly 300 meters downstream.
On September 29, rescue teams confirmed the recovery of two bodies after a pickup truck was swept off a road and into fast-flowing water in Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi province on September 27 at 5 p.m. Two male passengers were rescued by officials and residents, but two others were swept away. The missing victims were identified as Tong, 55, and her daughter Nicha, 12, a fifth-grade student.
Thong Pha Phum District Officer Anusorn Sang-saeng coordinated rescue operations with Lam Khlong Ngoo National Park officials, local police, and volunteers. Search efforts were suspended at 10 p.m. on September 27 due to darkness and dangerous floodwaters. Operations resumed on the morning of September 28 with a temporary command center established. The remote, forested area presented significant challenges, with communications disrupted and rescue teams relying on radio contact.
On September 29 at 3 p.m., rescue workers systematically searched downstream channels clogged with debris and fallen trees. They discovered Nicha's body pinned under tree branches and transported it to the temporary command center. At 6 p.m., rescuers found Tong's body similarly trapped under a large fallen branch, approximately 10 meters from where her daughter was found. Both victims had been swept about 300 meters from the incident site. After clearing debris, officials carefully recovered both bodies from the hazardous terrain.
