The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand operating the Vajiralongkorn Dam in Kanchanaburi province has announced increased water releases beginning today in response to heavy and continuous rainfall. Water inflow to the reservoir has risen steadily, with the reservoir level reaching 8,484 million cubic meters (96 percent capacity) as of September 28 at 7 p.m.
Following a meeting of the weather analysis and water situation forecast committee under the National Water Resources Committee, authorities approved the increase in releases. Starting September 29, daily releases will be raised from 15 million to 30 million cubic meters per day (347 cubic meters per second). From September 30 to October 4, releases will be further increased to 42 million cubic meters per day (486 cubic meters per second).
All releases follow strict protocols outlined in the dam's water management manual. The authority will closely monitor water levels and weather conditions and provide continuous updates to the public. Residents downstream are advised to move valuables to higher ground, monitor water conditions closely, prepare emergency plans, and exercise caution when traveling in flood-prone areas.
