Chinese Businessman Found Dead After Flash Flood Sweeps Car Into Canal
A 56-year-old Chinese businessman was found dead in a Rayong drainage canal two days after flash floods swept his sedan off the road near an industrial zone in Samnak Thong subdistrict.
On September 28, rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Foundation in Rayong province responded to a report of a body found in a drainage canal in Samnak Thong subdistrict, Muang Rayong district. The deceased is believed to be a 56-year-old Chinese businessman who went missing when flash flood waters swept his sedan into a canal two days earlier.
According to preliminary interviews with the man's companions, the group was driving near an industrial zone in Samnak Thong when a sudden wave of floodwater struck both vehicles—a pickup truck and the businessman's sedan. The pickup truck veered off the road but the occupants managed to escape. The sedan, however, was swept into the drainage canal and disappeared.
The body was discovered in the afternoon, floating in the canal approximately 200 meters from where the vehicle was swept away. Investigators from Samnak Thong Police Station documented the scene and collected evidence. The body has been transported to Rayong Hospital for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Authorities will notify the Chinese embassy in Thailand of the incident.
