On September 5, Ek Kalee Nor Kaew Mongkol, an investigator at Tha Wung Police Station in Lopburi province, received a report of a pickup truck plunging into Bang Lee Canal near the Bang Mayom water gate on the Kok Kratiem-Bang Lee route in Bang Lee subdistrict, Tha Wung district. The vehicle sank, with the number of occupants initially unknown.
Investigators traveled to the scene with Kittiphop Kongphanit, Tha Wung District Officer, emergency medical staff from Tha Wung Hospital, and volunteer divers from the Po Tek Tung Foundation Lopburi branch. The accident occurred on a dark two-lane road where skid marks, a damaged directional sign, and a damaged tree were found near the roadside. After approximately one hour of diving and searching, divers located a blue Toyota Vigo submerged underwater.
A single male victim was found inside the vehicle, identified as Pon, a 50-year-old construction engineer and driver of the car. Volunteer foundation staff recovered the body for preliminary autopsy before it was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further examination.
According to local residents, they heard the sound of the car hitting a tree before it plunged into the canal and saw taillights dimming but were unable to provide assistance. The victim, a construction control engineer, had taken a shortcut on the Kok Kratiem-Bang Mayom route to return home after work. Investigators believe he was unfamiliar with the route, and combined with the narrow, dark road conditions, the vehicle lost control, struck the directional sign, and plunged into the canal.
