Search Continues for Missing Man Lost in Chiang Rai Forest
The search for a 39-year-old man who became lost while trekking in the forests of Doi Chong in Chiang Rai entered its second day on October 3. He last spoke to his mother, reporting he was cold, very hungry, and out of food and water, before his phone battery died. Rescue teams, drones, and local villagers are combing the area, though his exact location remains unknown.
The missing man, approximately 39 years old and residing in Ban Chong Moo 9, Tambon Pong Pa, Mae Sai, Chiang Rai, had ventured onto Doi Chong or Doi Khun Nam Nang Non with a group of friends to sightsee and collect forest produce starting on October 2. After losing contact with the group, only two friends returned down the mountain. He was known to have a mobile phone with him, and his mother managed to speak with him later that evening, hearing that he was cold and extremely hungry and had not taken any food or water since the day before. Authorities believe he became lost near the area behind the Don Pang Mee treatment center on Doi Nang Non, where his phone signal was extremely weak. Search personnel, including village headmen, forest officials, and Tham Luang National Park rangers, have deployed drones and are planning a systematic sweep, with one team already moving ahead into the dark. Despite efforts, the man's phone battery has now died, preventing further communication, and the search continues.
