NAKHON RATCHASIMA — Archaeologists have uncovered remains of an Ayutthaya-era city wall in Nakhon Ratchasima, marking the first such discovery in the province in two decades. The find was made during an archaeological excavation along Phon Lan Road on the eastern side of the historic city wall, with the project being carried out jointly by the Fine Arts Department's Regional Office 10 in Nakhon Ratchasima and the Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality.

Official sources said the wall was found more than two meters below ground level and represents a significant archaeological breakthrough for the area. Nakhon Ratchasima, commonly known as Korat, has long been regarded as one of Thailand's most heavily fortified historic cities, with a carefully planned layout that included moats, fortifications, gates, and watchtowers.

Archaeologists believe the original city wall began as an earthen embankment constructed during the reign of King Maha Chakkraphat of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, with brick fortifications later added during the reign of King Narai the Great. Historical records indicate the city wall stretched approximately 1.7 kilometers from east to west and about 1 kilometer from north to south, with a wall crest measuring around 2 to 3 meters in thickness. Officials said further studies will be conducted to better understand the structure and its historical significance.

Phuket Street Performer Builds International Music Career
22 Jul Khaosod

As Phuket singer Nene Royal attracts international attention following her appearance on America's Got Talent, another young musician who began performing on the island's streets has continued building a career abroad.

Prapaporn "Fiat" Sreemoung, known by the stage name Queen On Street, became familiar to Thai and international visitors for her powerful vocals and electric-guitar performances.

Fiat began her musical journey as a street performer at the age of seven. With support from her father, Fu, who is also a singer and guitarist, she performed regularly alongside him at locations across Phuket and became a familiar presence on Bangla Road.

Between 2021 and 2022, Queen On Street gained significant attention online after videos of Fiat's performances went viral. The clips showed large crowds gathering to watch her perform in Patong. At the time, she was only 13 years old and won praise online for her voice, confidence and guitar skills.

A screengrab from Queen On Street's official YouTube channel shows her performing a cover of Miley Cyrus's "Wrecking Ball". At the time of writing, the video has more than 2.5 million views.

As her profile grew, Fiat began pursuing opportunities beyond Phuket, taking part in music events and competitions overseas. In June 2024, she won first place in an international music competition in Barcelona, Spain, according to posts on her official social-media page and subsequent Thai media reports.

She also travelled to Europe to develop new music projects, including recording sessions in Sweden, and released original English-language singles including "We, Me & I" and "U Can Have It All". The projects marked her development from a young street performer into a recording artist pursuing audiences abroad.

One of Fiat's notable performances was at the "Young Artists for Ukraine" concert in Sweden, where she performed alongside other young musicians from around the world.

Fiat no longer performs regularly at her former spot on Bangla Road as she increasingly pursues music projects overseas. However, her journey shows how Phuket's street-performance culture can provide young musicians with an early stage on which to develop their talent and connect with audiences.

Fiat performs Papa Roach's "Last Resort" in a video posted on her public Facebook page.

Like several other emerging musicians from Phuket, Fiat began by performing in public and building her skills within the local community. Her journey from Bangla Road to concerts, competitions and recording sessions abroad illustrates how a small street stage can become the starting point for a much larger musical career.

Officials Blamed for Negligence in Wild Elephant's Death
22 Jul Khaosod

On July 22, 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) reported the results of its investigation into the death of the wild elephant Sidaw Hupab. The investigation committee, established under secret order 194/2569 on March 11, 2025, found that officials exhibited negligence during the capture and relocation process of the elephant. The committee recommended disciplinary proceedings against the staff involved and ordered the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation to pay compensation equivalent to the elephant's value, estimated at 5-10 million baht.

According to Nipon Jamnongsirisak, Deputy Secretary of the MNRE and chair of the investigation committee, the findings are now clear and based on legal principles. Field staff directly responsible for managing the elephant relocation are considered to have been negligent when the elephant died during the operation. Department executives involved in the relocation will be pursued for civil damages, with the compensation amount to be calculated more precisely according to scientific valuation methods.

On July 22, Thanawat, 24, a motorcycle delivery rider, filed a report at Saen Suk Police Station in Chon Buri with more than 20 friends after being assaulted and injured. Thanawat explained that he was returning from completing a delivery and singing while riding normally when his voice crossed paths with a pickup truck. The driver mistakenly thought Thanawat was cursing at him, so he chased the rider attempting to harm him. Thanawat fled and stopped at a shop, but two men got out of the pickup and chased him down, kicking over his motorcycle and damaging it.

Waleelak, 43, a shop employee, witnessed the incident and said she saw the rider's motorcycle arrive, followed shortly by the pickup truck moving at high speed. Two men jumped out and attacked the rider, then kicked over the motorcycle until it fell. She shouted to stop them and urged both parties to calm down before they separated.

Later, Thaworn, 50, the pickup truck driver, came to Saen Suk Police Station, apologized, and agreed to compensate for the damage. He explained that he was driving in the alley when he heard what he thought was the rider cursing at him, so he thought the rider was insulting him. In anger and frustration, he chased the rider intending to confront him, but his anger led him to kick over the motorcycle. Initial talks and apologies were exchanged, with compensation agreed upon. The driver acknowledged his hot temper and regrettable actions.

SCGP Posts 128% Profit Surge on Strong ASEAN Packaging Demand

SCG Packaging's net profit jumped 128% in Q2 2025 as packaging demand rebounded across ASEAN, particularly in Vietnam and Indonesia, driven by rising consumer spending and government stimulus programs.

SCGP Posts 128% Profit Surge on Strong ASEAN Packaging Demand
22 Jul Khaosod

SCGP announced strong second-quarter 2025 results, with net profit surging 128 percent on the back of recovering packaging demand across ASEAN. CEO Wicharn Jitphakdi of SCG Packaging Public Company Limited attributed the rebound to improved consumer spending and exports in multiple ASEAN countries, notably Vietnam and Indonesia, combined with inventory buildups to hedge supply uncertainty and government economic stimulus programs across the region. Packaging demand for consumer goods and food products rose steadily as a result.

The company's Indonesian operations returned to profitability through higher domestic sales, efficient cost management, and energy structure optimization, while Vietnam continued to benefit from expanding domestic economic activity and consumption. Second-quarter revenue reached 32.454 billion baht, up 3 percent year-on-year and 11 percent quarter-on-quarter. EBITDA climbed 37 percent to 5.821 billion baht, and net profit hit 2.304 billion baht, up 128 percent from the same quarter last year and 47 percent from the first quarter.

The board approved an interim dividend of 0.40 baht per share, totaling 1.717 billion baht, with an ex-dividend date of August 4, 2025, and payment on August 19, 2025. The company expects continued packaging demand growth in the third quarter, supported by production for inventory builds extending from late Q3 into Q4 to meet export and domestic consumption needs in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. Energy cost and oil-price volatility are expected to ease, though the company will closely monitor international geopolitical tensions that could affect supply chains and operating costs.

SCGP is also advancing its ASEAN packaging expansion strategy, planning to invest 748 million baht to add 26,800 tons of annual corrugated box capacity in southern Vietnam to support long-term demand growth. The company is also boosting operational efficiency through AI technology, machine learning systems, and smart robotics in production to strengthen competitiveness and drive sustainable future growth.

Japan Leads Seven-Nation World Cup 2046 Bid With Thailand

Japan is leading a seven-nation bid to host the 2046 FIFA World Cup, partnering with South Korea, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore—all possessing stadiums that meet FIFA standards.

Japan Leads Seven-Nation World Cup 2046 Bid With Thailand
22 Jul Khaosod

The Japan Football Association (JFA) is preparing a joint hosting proposal for the 2046 FIFA World Cup with two East Asian nations and four Southeast Asian countries, excluding only Vietnam due to infrastructure challenges. The consortium comprises three East Asian countries—Japan, South Korea, and China—alongside four Southeast Asian nations: Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, all with certified football stadiums. Malaysia will provide the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, accommodating nearly 90,000 spectators; Indonesia offers two venues with capacities exceeding 80,000, including the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and Jakarta International Stadium; Thailand features the Rajamangala Stadium with 70,000 capacity; and Singapore's National Stadium holds 55,000 spectators. Vietnam, despite being a large nation, was excluded from the proposal due to limited and deteriorating sports infrastructure—its Mỹ Đình National Stadium has only 40,000 seats and has faced heavy criticism in recent years for poor condition and outdated design. The 2046 World Cup will adopt an expanded format, first introduced in 2026, featuring 48 participating teams and requiring more comprehensive logistics and facilities; the tournament may accommodate even more teams by 2046. The host selection process is scheduled for around 2031.

22 Jul Khaosod

On July 22, 2026, Colonel Satit Samanphap and officers from Highway Patrol Division 5 arrested Wisit, 34, based on a Lopburi Provincial Court warrant for nighttime burglary using a vehicle to facilitate the crime. The arrest followed a radio report of a car hitting a motorcycle and fleeing on Highway 12 in Phitsanulok's Wang Thong District.

At the scene, officers found a gray Toyota sedan bearing Lopburi license plates with Wisit at the wheel. Investigation revealed the car belonged to a Lopburi resident. Wisit confessed to stealing the vehicle along with a mobile phone and tablet from the victim's home in the early morning hours. He then sold the phone, bought fuel without paying in Nakhon Sawan, and fled toward Phitsanulok, where he struck a motorcycle while attempting to escape. Highway police caught up and arrested him.

Further investigation showed the vehicle's owner had filed a missing car report at Tha Hin Police Station in Lopburi. Wisit was already subject to a court warrant in a separate nighttime burglary case. The suspect confessed to all charges. Police seized the vehicle and related assets as evidence and transferred him to Tha Hin Police Station for legal proceedings.

Nestlé's Health Mission Engages Over 18,000 Thais in Wellness Shift

Nestlé's Health Mission Engages Over 18,000 Thais in Wellness Shift
22 Jul Khaosod

Thailand's fast-paced lifestyle—rushed meals of fast food and vanishing exercise time—has made non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol a silent threat across all age groups. Working-age adults struggle to find time for self-care, schoolchildren risk obesity from snacking and screen time, and seniors need intensive health monitoring.

In response, Nestlé Thailand has launched a sustained health-promotion initiative called "Health Victory Mission," which goes beyond developing nutritious products to create tangible, field-based activities that motivate lasting behavioral change. Results prove this is real transformation, not just words.

**Success Across 500 Communities Nationwide**

Since its launch in 2023, Nestlé has deployed the "Health Victory Mission" across Thailand in 6–13 week cycles designed for everyday life. To date, the program has reached over 18,000 people across more than 500 communities nationwide. What matters most is the measurable results: systematic follow-up shows that roughly 80 percent of participants consistently adopted better health habits, and 45 percent achieved concrete health improvements. These figures demonstrate that sustainable behavioral change is achievable when activities are designed to fit people's real lives and receive continuous monitoring.

**Three Missions for Every Age Group (Working Adults – Children – Seniors)**

**Health Victory Mission for Working Adults** — An ongoing program targeting 50 communities this year through partnerships with public health personnel and community health networks. Activities include basic health screening, training on balanced nutrition, step counters, and starter kits to motivate 13 weeks of self-care, with pre- and post-monitoring by local health staff.

**Nestlé for Healthy Children** — Designed for schoolchildren under Bangkok's School Obesity Prevention Program (BSOPP), Nestlé supports nutritional literacy through an eight-week "Healthy Bingo" activity where children learn and practice together, plus step counters to encourage physical activity. It plants the seeds of balanced eating and active living from youth to reduce obesity and NCD risk long-term.

**Senior Health Champions** — For elderly citizens, an award-winning program partners with Happy Senior Network and the Urban Health Development Institute to reach 1,000 seniors. It not only teaches health and nutrition but develops seniors as role models who pass knowledge to family and community, creating a ripple effect.
