Bangkok Blue Line Resumes Service After Cable Fire
Bangkok's Blue Line subway resumed full service after an overnight repair of a cable fire that temporarily halted trains between two stations, with all safety inspections completed before reopening on September 21.
On September 21, Deputy Transport Minister Pattrapong Pattrapreesit announced that the Bangkok Mass Transit System Blue Line has resumed normal service at all stations following an electrical short circuit in the cable system. The incident forced a temporary service suspension between Bang O and Kamphaeng Phet stations to allow repairs to the track and power systems. Service resumed at 5:37 a.m.
According to BTS officials, the fire was sparked by a 750-volt direct current cable, which damaged both the power distribution and signaling systems. Technicians repaired the cable assembly, power rail, and signaling equipment, then conducted a comprehensive safety inspection before reopening the line.
Deputy Minister Pattrapong expressed gratitude to all personnel who worked overnight to restore the system, ensuring passengers could travel safely and smoothly at the start of the week. He emphasized that the system underwent full safety checks before service resumed, giving the public confidence in its reliability.
