BEM Restores Blue Line After Electrical Short Circuit
An electrical short circuit on Bangkok's Blue Line between Tao Pun and Bang Po stations disrupted service on Sunday, but BEM completed repairs and restored full operations by September 21 after 12 hours of emergency work.
Bangkok Mass Transit System (BEM) apologizes sincerely to all passengers for the inconvenience caused by an electrical short circuit on the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line (Blue Line) between Tao Pun and Bang Po stations on Sunday, September 20, 2025. The company immediately contained the incident by standard emergency protocols, halting service on the Blue and Purple lines while safely evacuating passengers from stations. Damage assessment with the Mass Transit Authority identified sparking from a 750-volt direct current cable that damaged the power supply and signaling systems, which were urgently repaired. The Purple Line resumed normal service after being found unaffected.
BEM mobilized engineering teams and experts from all departments for continuous 12-hour repairs covering signaling systems, SCADA, communications, wiring, and third-rail systems. After repairs were completed, the company conducted thorough system testing and ran two inspection trains along the affected route on both sides to confirm system readiness before reopening.
Testing and inspection confirmed that train operation, electrical supply, and all related systems are functioning normally with no additional damage affecting train safety. BEM confirms full restoration of Blue Line service as of September 21, 2025, across all stations. The company will intensify inspection and maintenance protocols, particularly during the rainy season, to prevent recurrence and maintain the highest safety standards with passenger safety as the top priority.
