Thai Boxer Banjong Exits Asian Games in First Round
Thai boxer Banjong Sinsiri was eliminated from the Asian Games in Nagoya after losing a points decision to India's Sumit in the men's 70kg opening round on September 21.
Banjong Sinsiri, a boxer in the same weight class as former ONE world champion Nabil Anane, suffered a surprising loss to an Indian opponent in the opening round of amateur boxing at the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan on September 21. In the men's 70-kilogram first-round bout, Banjong faced Indian boxer Sumit. Banjong competes in the same weight division as Nabil Anane, the former ONE world champion who was recently announced as part of Thailand's selection pool for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Despite Banjong's attempts to establish his rhythm from the opening round, the Indian boxer effectively countered his advances. As the match progressed into rounds two and three, the Indian boxer became increasingly dominant, landing multiple clean punches to the target. After all three rounds, the judges raised the hand of Sumit as the victor on points, eliminating Banjong in the first round.
