Bangkok Braces for More Rain as All Canals Reach Capacity
Bangkok's major canals are at full capacity as stalled rain systems threaten further flooding, with authorities urging residents to move valuables to higher ground and prepare evacuation routes.
On the morning of September 26, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt inspected water management conditions at the Bangkok Water Control and Drainage Office in the Din Daeng district, accompanied by Deputy Governor Sanon Wang Srangbun and Spokesman Ekawaranyoo Amprapan.
Chadchart stated that the situation has not improved despite incoming rain. The rain is circulating without moving away and forms a low-pressure trough. Although water levels have stabilized temporarily, authorities fear additional rainfall may arrive. All major canals including Saen Saep, Prawet, Lad Phrao, and Prem Prachakon are now completely full, primarily affecting the eastern side of the city.
He advised residents with valuables to move them to higher ground and relocate vehicles to parking areas in Bangkok or designated school grounds if necessary. For bedridden patients, all districts have surveyed and identified safe locations, with evacuation centers established at nearby schools. Chadchart emphasized that rainfall near 300 millimeters over the past 24 hours is considered significant, compounded by water flowing in from neighboring provinces like Pathum Thani and Nonthaburi. Drainage efforts continue around the clock as authorities monitor the situation closely.
