Bangkok Industrial Gas (BIG), Thailand's leader in low-carbon industrial gas production and innovation, is expanding its transport fleet in partnership with Scania to add Euro5 clean-energy vehicles. The expansion supports growing demand from the electronics and data center sectors for low-carbon gases, ensuring reliable 24-hour gas delivery with high safety and efficiency standards.
The expansion of investment and growth in the electronics and data center industries is driving demand for low-carbon gases. BIG is rapidly scaling its fleet to meet round-the-clock customer production needs, partnering with Scania to deploy Scania Super Euro5 clean-energy trucks for industrial gas transport nationwide. The company emphasizes performance, safety, and cost-efficiency as core strengths.
Yodchai Chaitup, supply chain and logistics advisor at BIG, explained that BIG leads Thailand in producing and innovating low-carbon industrial gases, including industrial gases, medical gases, specialty gases, and complete gas technology solutions. The company is backed by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a global leader in industrial gas production and clean energy technology.
Beyond low-carbon gas production, BIG invests in business development under its "Generating a Cleaner Future" strategy, including an air separation plant powered by LNG cold energy developed with PTT, and pioneering Thailand's first green hydrogen production for electricity generation. The company aims within three to five years to become a comprehensive leader in low-carbon industrial gas and energy solutions.
BIG's diverse customer base spans steel and metals, petrochemicals, refineries, automotive, food and beverage, and healthcare sectors. The standout growth segment is electronics, semiconductors, data centers, and advanced technology, driven by expanding investment in Thailand and rising demand for low-carbon industrial gases to meet sustainability and environmental compliance standards.
As BIG's gas production and transport operations expand, logistics and transport are critical. Industrial gases require continuous 24-hour production with no interruption, and as regulated hazardous materials, they demand strict safety protocols. Gas transport typically operates through two channels: pipeline systems in industrial estates and specialized truck fleets, separated by product type such as highly flammable hydrogen and LNG, or cryogenic nitrogen and oxygen. Safety oversight is paramount across vehicle condition, equipment, tanks, driver training, and operational controls.
Beyond safety, transport vehicles must be reliable, efficient, environmentally friendly, well-serviced, and cost-effective over their operational life. Recently, BIG has accelerated fleet expansion accordingly.
