Bangkok Student Uses Sound Healing to Build Youth Resilience

A 17-year-old Bangkok student is using sound, music and mindfulness to help young people build confidence and cope with the pressures of school and everyday life.

Paro Phornprapha, a Year 12 student at Bangkok Patana School, launched a youth-led initiative focused on emotional well-being and resilience, encouraging students to slow down, reflect and reconnect with themselves. The initiative recently brought Paro and his colleague, KK Anuras, to Rittinarongron School in Bangkok, where they conducted a workshop for more than 50 students and teachers.

"When we first approached the teachers and students, our shared vision became clear," Paro said. "We intend to create positive energy and human connection through the power of sound waves and music."

The initiative grew from Paro's observations of peers dealing with academic pressure, competition, university preparation and changing social expectations. Rather than treating personal development as another goal to achieve, the program introduces simple practices that can be incorporated into daily life. Participants are encouraged to create personalized music playlists for studying, exercise or hobbies, which the organizers describe as a digital "first-aid kit" for the mind.

The program also uses indoor rock climbing to encourage a "Try, Fall, Recover" mindset among younger students, with the aim of helping them view mistakes and setbacks as opportunities to build confidence and persistence.

The initiative has also received recognition from Dr. Shuzo Kobayashi, president and CEO of Shonan Kamakura General Hospital and a vice chairman of the board of General Incorporated Association Tokushukai, who described it as a scientifically grounded and preventive approach that could help address mental health challenges among students.

The organizers say the project is designed by young people for their peers, with a focus on self-awareness, emotional resilience and confidence rather than simply providing temporary relief from stress. Their message is that resilience is not a fixed trait, but a capacity that can be developed and strengthened through practice.
