Cavalry Unit Clashes With Drug Smugglers, Seizes Over One Million Tablets
A cavalry unit engaged drug smugglers in a firefight near Phae Muang District on September 5, seizing over one million methamphetamine tablets despite the suspects escaping into heavy fog.
On September 5, 2025, cavalry forces from the Chaiyanupap special operations unit under Phae Muang District Command detected approximately six to seven smugglers moving through a mountain pass at 05:30 a.m. When asked to stop for inspection, the group opened fire with unknown weapons, triggering a firefight that lasted about five minutes. Heavy fog and the suspects' familiarity with the terrain allowed them to escape despite the dense gunfire. No friendly casualties were reported. After the clash, troops recovered five modified shoulder bags containing approximately 1,080,000 methamphetamine tablets, classified as Category 1 narcotics. Deputy Commander Thom Malaitong and related agencies arrived at the scene to document the seizure, with all evidence subsequently transferred to Na Wai Police Station for legal proceedings.
