Chachoengsao Orders Jewish Cemetery Demolished Within Seven Days
Chachoengsao's provincial governor has ordered the Jewish Cemetery in Ban Khlong demolished and all remains relocated within seven days after the facility's license expired and failed to meet legal location requirements.
The Chachoengsao Provincial Governor has ordered the demolition of the Jewish Cemetery in Ban Khlong and the relocation of all remains within seven days. The Semet Tai Subdistrict Municipality has posted notices prohibiting use of the structure. On September 7, 2025, Provincial Governor Chatraporn Niayom issued Provincial Order 2037/2569 requiring the dismantling of the Jewish Cemetery Thailand facility in Semet Tai Subdistrict, Ban Khlong District, and the transfer of all buried or stored remains to a properly licensed private cemetery within seven days. The Ban Khlong District Chief and relevant agencies have been instructed to closely monitor compliance and report progress regularly. Simultaneously, Kittipong Siluang, the Semet Tai Subdistrict headman, issued three orders and posted red warning notices at the cemetery entrance prohibiting its use, under Semet Tai Subdistrict Order 527/2569 dated September 7, 2025. Violations carry criminal penalties under Section 67 of the Building Control Act 1979, with penalties of up to six months imprisonment, a fine not exceeding 100,000 baht, or both. The cemetery's license expired on December 31, 2023, and the Ban Khlong District Chief refused to renew it because the location does not comply with Section 12(2) of the Cemetery and Crematorium Act 1985 and related ministerial regulations. However, the situation continues to cause concern among local residents. The Ban Khlong District Chief has called an urgent meeting with all relevant agencies and village leaders for tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to discuss further progress.
