Both men face charges of premeditated murder, armed robbery at night, impersonating police officers, and illegal possession of firearms. Thailand Tightens Online Platform Rules for Fake Products
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, 2569, Minister Supamas Israphakdi, overseeing the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), assigned Praderm Bunsuay, Prime Minister's Advisor, to drive policy on managing online platforms for consumer protection. The move follows a July 31 national workshop at Thai Chamber of Commerce University to develop an integrated consumer protection action plan for online merchandise issues.

Supamas revealed that current online trading problems include substandard products, unsafe goods, and items not matching advertisements, with consumers often receiving no compensation when harmed. Rather than targeting sellers alone, the strategy must examine the entire online commerce chain, particularly digital platforms that profit by connecting buyers and sellers.

Although the OCPB currently lacks legal authority to directly shut down or suspend online platforms, the government is pushing a "shared responsibility" approach, requiring platforms to share liability with sellers for preventing, blocking, and remedying damage from illegal goods. The policy aims to improve laws and enforcement mechanisms to hold platforms accountable.

This continues Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's mandate to grow the digital economy while protecting public rights. The OCPB will coordinate with digital regulation, e-commerce, and direct-sales agencies to establish joint working mechanisms and clear performance indicators. Additionally, Supamas directed the OCPB to study class-action lawsuit procedures for cases where many consumers suffer identical harm, easing access to justice and reducing burdens on individual victims. A national action plan with roles, responsibilities, and key performance indicators was developed during the July 31 workshop.

Insurance Regulator Confirms Hulun Solo Had 5 Million Baht Coverage

Thailand's Insurance Commission confirmed that Hulun Solo held a 5 million baht travel insurance policy covering accidental death and homicide, with payout eligibility depending on the official cause-of-death investigation in Georgia.

Insurance Regulator Confirms Hulun Solo Had 5 Million Baht Coverage
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, 2025, Thailand's Insurance Commission (OIC) released an update on insurance coverage for Bawornthad Pengsook, known as Hulun Solo, following news of his death in Georgia. The commission extended its condolences to the deceased's family and initiated an urgent review of his insurance information while coordinating with the relevant insurance company to ensure beneficiaries receive proper coverage under the policy's full terms and conditions.

OIC Secretary-General Chuchart Pramulpol revealed that after the family's consent, the commission examined Hulun Solo's insurance records with Sompo Insurance Thailand (Public) Company Limited. The investigation found that he held one travel insurance policy with death coverage in cases of accident or murder, with a benefit amount of 5 million baht. This coverage applies specifically to accidental death or homicide and does not extend to death from illness.

Coverage eligibility and compensation payment therefore depend on the official cause of death investigation, combined with the policy's terms, conditions, and corroborating documentation from relevant authorities. The OIC is closely coordinating with Sompo Insurance, which is awaiting the formal death investigation results and complete claim documentation from the beneficiary.

If the investigation confirms the death falls under the policy's coverage terms and the beneficiary submits all required documents, the insurance company will promptly process the claim according to the policy. Additionally, Sompo Insurance has indicated its readiness to assist with and cover expenses related to repatriating the deceased's remains to Thailand, even before the cause of death investigation concludes, to help ease the family's immediate burden.

The OIC will closely monitor the insurance company's handling of the case to ensure beneficiaries receive fair, complete, and swift consideration of their claim. Members of the public with questions about insurance rights may contact the OIC at hotline 1186 or via the LINE Official Account @OICConnect "OIC Know-How."

Farmer Dies Crushed Under Tractor in Irrigation Canal
1 Aug Khaosod

A tragic accident claimed the life of a 61-year-old farmer when his tractor overturned and sank in an irrigation canal in Ayutthaya province. At 2:00 p.m. on August 1, 2026, Bang Baan Police Station received a report of a tractor flipped upside down in a canal in Kob Jao subdistrict. Officers arrived to find the machine half-submerged with the driver trapped underneath. The victim, identified as Samran (last name withheld), was a resident of Kob Jao subdistrict. Authorities called in a lifting crane to recover the tractor before removing the body amid the family's distress.

According to a neighbor, the victim regularly left home in the early morning to work his fields and would normally return for lunch. When he failed to arrive by noon, his family became concerned and began searching. His wife eventually spotted the submerged tractor in the irrigation canal and immediately alerted relatives and neighbors. One relative jumped into the water to investigate but discovered the victim was already trapped beneath the machine and beyond help. Emergency responders were called, though the exact time of the accident remains unclear.

Initial investigation suggests that as the farmer was steering his tractor down from the embankment to enter his rice field along a curved section of road, the vehicle lost control, flipped into the canal, and crushed him underwater. Police documented the scene and collected evidence for further investigation. The body was later transferred to Bang Baan Hospital for autopsy before being released to the family for religious rites.

Doctor Warns of 10 Fatty Liver Disease Warning Signs

A doctor warns that one in three Thais has fatty liver disease without knowing it, outlining 10 warning signs including chronic fatigue, abdominal obesity, and dark skin patches that signal the silent condition can progress to liver cancer

Doctor Warns of 10 Fatty Liver Disease Warning Signs
1 Aug Khaosod

Dr. Suphawit Wicharanyanan, known as Dr. Oak, has posted about fatty liver disease and hepatitis, outlining 10 warning signs of this silent condition affecting one in three Thais without their knowledge, which increases the risk of liver cancer and heart failure. He also provides 15 methods to restore liver health.

The statistics are alarming: one in three people has fatty liver disease without knowing it. Why is this dangerous? Because the liver is the body's waste-disposal plant. When it becomes filled with fat and inflamed (NASH), it progresses to fibrosis, then cirrhosis, and finally liver cancer. Additionally, an inflamed liver releases toxins into the bloodstream, doubling the risk of heart failure and stroke compared to the general population.

Dr. Oak presents 10 warning signs the body sends when the liver is distressed:

1. Chronic fatigue: Feeling tired upon waking and drowsy in the afternoon because the liver cannot convert nutrients into energy 2. Central obesity: Particularly upper belly fat (visceral fat), which is a storehouse for liver fat 3. Right-side rib discomfort: Tightness and heaviness under the right rib cage from liver swelling pressing against the liver capsule 4. Dark neck and armpits (Acanthosis Nigricans): Rough, dark patches indicating severe insulin resistance, the root cause of fatty liver 5. Abnormal red palms (Palmar Erythema): Redness in the palms, thumbs, and little fingers from excessive estrogen (the liver cannot break down hormones) 6. Spider-like blood vessels (Spider Angiomas): Red dots resembling spiders on the chest, shoulders, and arms 7. Itching without rash: Poor bile circulation causes bile salts to enter the bloodstream, irritating the skin 8. Yellowing of skin and eyes (Jaundice): Late-stage sign when the liver cannot excrete bilirubin 9. Abdominal and leg swelling (Edema/Ascites): Late-stage cirrhosis with low albumin protein causing water to leak from blood vessels 10. Brain fog and confusion (Hepatic Encephalopathy): The liver cannot eliminate waste (ammonia), which reaches the brain

Dr. Oak also identifies 10 risk factors for liver damage beyond alcohol:

1. High-fructose corn syrup in soft drinks, bubble tea, and packaged juices—the number one liver poison that converts to fat 100% 2. Alcohol: Directly damages liver cells, causing inflammation and cirrhosis 3. Refined white carbohydrates and sugar: White rice and bread convert to triglycerides that accumulate in the liver 4. Trans fats: Artificial cream, margarine, and repeatedly fried foods trigger severe inflammation 5. Central obesity: Abdominal fat flows directly into the liver 6. Type 2 diabetes: 70% of diabetics also have fatty liver disease 7. Rapid weight loss: Fasting to lose weight quickly causes fat to dissolve into the liver instead 8. Certain medications: Steroids, excessive paracetamol, and chemotherapy 9. Genetics: Some genes make fat accumulation in the liver easier 10. Gut dysbiosis: Bad bacteria produce alcohol and toxins that damage the liver through the portal vein

Dr. Oak recommends 15 methods to reverse fatty liver disease, including eliminating high-fructose corn syrup completely, switching to whole fruits instead of juices, and practicing intermittent fasting.

Thailand's Shadow Economy Ranks 14th Globally, Costing State Revenue

Thailand's informal economy ranks 14th globally and costs the state significant tax revenue, while the Bank of Thailand warns that capital misallocation to large businesses over SMEs hampers economic growth and productivity.

Thailand's Shadow Economy Ranks 14th Globally, Costing State Revenue
1 Aug Khaosod

The Bank of Thailand has revealed that Thailand's informal economy ranks 14th worldwide, causing the state to lose tax revenue and budget funds. On July 31, 2025, Sethaput Ratanapor, Governor of the Bank of Thailand, delivered a special address at The INTANIA Forum on surviving under the new world order at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Engineering, with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin in attendance. Ratanapor explained that the traditional economic world driven by globalization, free trade, and maximum efficiency has changed, and the global economy has entered a multipolar era where no single power determines direction. He highlighted how tariffs and trade measures are now used as tools of power competition, while global shocks from COVID-19, the Ukraine war, trade conflicts, and Middle Eastern tensions occur frequently.

Ratanapor stated that Thai economy must not only be flexible but also absorb shocks, adapt, and move forward. The key is structural economic reform, particularly addressing resource misallocation, which hampers productivity and the nation's GDP potential. He noted that Thailand does not lack capital—the Bank of Thailand currently absorbs liquidity through various channels worth approximately 5-6 trillion baht daily—but much of this money does not flow to efficient business units, resulting in below-potential economic growth.

Data reveals clear anomalies: over 75% of capital is allocated to large businesses, while SME credit has remained negative for 15 consecutive quarters. Even the top 30% of high-performing SMEs access only 21% of credit compared to large businesses accessing 63%. Ratanapor highlighted that financing cost disparities worsen SME competition, with efficient small businesses paying average interest of 7.8% while large enterprises pay around 3.9%. The solution involves creating a large-scale database to improve credit disbursement accuracy, reduce credit risk costs, and lower operational expenses. This database would integrate credit information, utility consumption data, and alternative data to more comprehensively assess borrower potential.

Ratanapor said this aligns with government policy, with Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitivattananon leading the initiative and using the government's Connect mechanism as the driving force. Success would help small-scale individuals and disciplined SMEs without sufficient collateral to access credit at reasonable costs. He emphasized that reallocating resources to more efficient business units would improve the Thai economy, increase productivity, and expand GDP potential.

Another major problem, he noted, is underground capital and the informal economy, which drain resources from the real economy. Thailand has the world's 14th-largest informal economy, representing 9-13% of economic activity as gray economy, preventing the state from collecting taxes and keeping money out of the budget system. The Bank of Thailand is closing multiple loopholes, including requiring explanations for cash withdrawals exceeding 5 million baht monthly. This followed the discovery that old 1,000-baht banknotes worth 140,000 million baht had disappeared from the system. Authorities are also monitoring gold transactions through apps that affect the baht's value. Ratanapor stated that gold regulatory measures are being implemented.

Political Rumors Swirl as Red and Green Parties Deny Coalition Plot

Red and green parties deny rumors of a secret coalition to overthrow the prime minister, with General Thammanat challenging authorities to verify flight records and dismissing the alleged Monaco meeting as a family vacation.

Political Rumors Swirl as Red and Green Parties Deny Coalition Plot
1 Aug Khaosod

Another deep, secretive political deal rumor has surfaced, this time alleging that the red and green parties are combining forces to replace the prime minister and crush the blue camp. To make the rumor more sensational, reports placed the alleged rendezvous in Monaco, a playground for the wealthy. General Thammanat Prombpoon of the Kao Klai green party was quick to respond, confirming he did go there but only to vacation with his family. He questioned why such a meeting would need to happen in Monaco when Thaksin could simply be called to meet in Bangkok, and he challenged authorities to check flight records to see if Thaksin even traveled to Monaco during that time. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul made light of the rumors, joking that red mixed with green is blue anyway. Pheu Thai spokesman Sutin Klungsang dismissed the story, noting that similar rumors surface frequently and questioning their credibility. He also pointed out that if Thaksin wanted to meet Thammanat, there would be no need to travel to Monaco, and that Thaksin has already stepped back from politics, leaving Pheu Thai to operate independently. He emphasized that the Palang Pracharath government and Pheu Thai are working well together with no conflicts. Sutin suggested the rumors are designed to sow discord and destabilize the government. However, the timing coincides with intensifying rumors of division within the blue camp's three major figures, prompting the release of the red-green coalition story to amplify the chaos. In terms of numbers, if Pheu Thai and Kao Klai united, they would have 132 votes compared to Palang Pracharath's 193, making such a coalition mathematically unlikely. Furthermore, the blue camp still has strong backing from powerful forces behind the scenes. Yet the rumor mill reflects a deeper reality: the Palang Pracharath government is struggling amid numerous challenges, facing negative developments and widespread public hardship. Such turbulent conditions inevitably invite waves of additional rumors to intensify the turmoil.
