A 23-year-old motorcyclist witnessed a tractor lose control and crash into a canal, so he immediately stopped and jumped in to help. However, the older driver could not swim, and combined with the strong current, both men drowned. On July 11 at 4 p.m., Sirote Petdee, a duty officer at Muang Phichit Police Station, received a report of a tractor plunging into the Muang irrigation canal with a good Samaritan attempting a rescue. The incident occurred near Irrigation Canal C-67 Gate in Baan Tha Pothi, Muang Old Subdistrict, Muang District, Phichit Province. Rescue units were mobilized to search for the two missing people. At the scene, a motorcycle and a pair of shoes were found by the canal. Within 30 minutes, rescue workers discovered both bodies underwater—the tractor driver clinging tightly to the young rescuer. Both bodies were brought up from the canal without vital signs. The deceased were identified as Surin, 70, the tractor driver, and Peerapat, 23, the good Samaritan who attempted the rescue. Both were neighbors from the same village. Investigation revealed that Surin was driving a tractor with attached cart back from farmland, just 400 meters from home, when he lost control and plunged into the canal. At the same moment, Peerapat was passing by on his motorcycle, saw the accident, quickly parked, removed his shoes, and jumped into the water to help. Unable to swim, Surin clung tightly to Peerapat, and the powerful current—caused by full water gate releases from Canal C-1 into Canal C-67—swept both men under, resulting in their deaths.

Young actors Pond Naravit and Phuwin Tangsakyuen have secured more endorsement deals than ever before in their careers, marking what they describe as a golden period in Thai entertainment. The duo, who partnered six years ago, appeared at the "Moshi Moshi School of Friendship Special Event x PondPhuwin" at Megabangna shopping mall on July 11, where they discussed their sustained popularity following the success of the series "Have Some Decorum, Mr. Thee" and its special episodes.

Both actors attribute their increased opportunities not solely to personal stardom, but to a broader upswing in the Thai entertainment industry that has created more chances for multiple artists. Phuwin acknowledged receiving numerous endorsement offers, saying he is grateful to every brand trusting them and committed to delivering their best work. When asked if this marks their peak, Pond emphasized that the industry as a whole is experiencing growth, benefiting many of their peers alongside them.

On July 11, 2026, Royal Thai Police arrested two suspects, Kiarti Sakdi and Sopol, along with 3.9 million methamphetamine pills, one van, one pickup truck with an enclosed bed, and one mobile phone at a parking lot in Bangkok's Khlong Samwa district.

Bangkok Metropolitan Police had been investigating reports of drug smuggling into the capital. Officers learned that suspects were using vehicles to hide methamphetamine and park them in residential areas to distribute to customers. At 9 PM on July 9, surveillance units observed a pickup truck pull alongside a van. Two suspects exited and transferred large black plastic bags from the van into the pickup bed. Police moved in to make the arrest.

The methamphetamine originated from the northeastern region and was being transported through Bangkok to southern provinces. Police believe this operation had occurred multiple times previously. Investigation revealed the suspects had spent 300,000 baht in cash to purchase two used vehicles for drug transport. Both suspects admitted to receiving 5,000 baht per trip. Charges have been filed, and police are pursuing other network members.

Nok Nimmol Metheesuwan, host and creator of the legendary children and youth documentary series "Thung Saeng Tawan," accepted the "TV Person of Honor" award at the 40th Golden Television Awards ceremony held at the Thailand Cultural Center in 2025, marking another proud moment for Thai television.

Over more than 30 years, "Thung Saeng Tawan" has done more than take viewers on journeys to learn about children and communities across Thailand. It has become a platform reflecting the value and potential of Thai children in multiple dimensions, establishing itself as a quality program etched in the memories of audiences across generations.

After receiving the award, Nok Nimmol spoke candidly about the honor and the driving force behind "Thung Saeng Tawan's" continued creation of quality content for Thai children and families. She reflected on media's role in advancing society and adapting to today's digital world.

"I'm grateful to the judges," she said. "The Golden Television Awards have given out multiple awards and set important standards for television media. This recognition energizes me for the work ahead. But this award isn't mine alone—it belongs to our sponsors, the station, my colleagues, and most importantly, the children and families who open their doors to us and support what we're trying to present."

When asked what has kept the program on screen for so long, Nok Nimmol explained: "In today's world, fewer children are being born, yet each one has tremendous value. We ask ourselves: how can we help families understand the worth of children and choose ways to care for and develop them into quality individuals? Thai society is aging, so every child is like a precious jewel. With fewer children, we must focus on quality. 'Thung Saeng Tawan' is about offering families options for nurturing their children."

On media's power to change society, she noted: "Today, anyone can produce media, but quality media must go through careful consideration and refinement. When the flood of all kinds of media passes, people will eventually choose what's truly worth consuming. We hope 'Thung Saeng Tawan' stands as one of those choices."

Regarding platform expansion, she shared: "Facebook has become very popular with our fan page seeing lots of engagement. We're also intentionally building YouTube as a massive library of children and youth documentaries from past to present. We're gradually uploading content, and once complete, there should be over 1,000 episodes."

On July 11, 2026, at Ratchdaphisek Criminal Court, drug enforcement police brought Ekawit (Line user 'Rin Rin') before the court for remand. He is accused of delivering an elephant-patterned bag containing concealed heroin to Uthai for delivery to 'Airthmina.' Ekawit faces charges of conspiracy to participate in an international criminal organization and conspiracy to possess Type 1 narcotic (heroin) for unlawful distribution. The court approved his remand. Later, Ekawit filed a request for temporary release, which the court rejected. The judge determined that the volume of evidence was substantial, the criminal conduct was organized in nature, penalties were severe, and there was a credible risk that he would flee if released, therefore denying the bail request.

PHUKET — 11 July 2026, Lifeguards at Kamala Beach safely captured and released a sea snake after it slithered ashore, startling tourists and local residents.

The incident occurred on Friday and was shared on Facebook by a user whose video showed the sea snake moving near the shoreline at Kamala Beach in Kathu district.

After being alerted, lifeguards responded to the scene and carefully captured the snake before releasing it back into the sea, preventing potential danger to both beachgoers and the animal.

Officals believe the snake may have been washed closer to shore by strong waves and rough sea conditions, which have affected Phuket's coastline in recent days.

Authorities reminded visitors not to approach, touch or attempt to catch sea snakes or other potentially dangerous marine animals. Anyone spotting such wildlife is advised to notify lifeguards or relevant officials so the animals can be handled safely.

Escaped Crocodile Sparks Chaos After Teen's Online Purchase

A Shanghai teenager's impulse purchase of a half-meter crocodile online for 100 yuan led to the reptile escaping from its container overnight, prompting a building-wide search that ended with authorities capturing the animal on a lower floo

Escaped Crocodile Sparks Chaos After Teen's Online Purchase
10h ago Khaosod

A 16-year-old boy in Shanghai ordered a freshwater crocodile through an online platform for 100 yuan (approximately 450 baht) out of curiosity, but the plan backfired when the reptile escaped from its container overnight, alarming the entire household.

When the father, surnamed Chen, received the package, he was shocked to find a nearly half-meter-long crocodile with its mouth wide open and thrashing violently. The cardboard box had been bitten through, and the fabric bag inside was punctured with holes.

Concerned about the crocodile's danger, Mr. Chen placed it in a heavy sack and left it on the building's fire escape. However, fearing the animal might suffocate, he didn't seal the sack tightly.

The next morning, when Mr. Chen checked on it, the sack was empty. He immediately began searching the fire escape, starting from the 22nd floor, until he found the young crocodile hiding in a stairwell corner on a lower floor. He promptly notified authorities to capture it before the animal was transported to Shanghai's wildlife rescue and conservation center.

Following the incident's exposure, numerous internet users called on online shopping platforms to impose stricter regulations on selling dangerous animals. Critics argued that buyers should take responsibility for their decisions and should not purchase exotic animals merely out of curiosity or novelty, then abandon them when unable to care for them.

Experts recommend that parents educate children thoroughly about pet ownership before making the decision, considering environmental conditions, care costs, and long-term responsibility. They stressed that pet ownership is not simply satisfying temporary desires but rather a commitment to another life, and hasty decisions can have long-lasting impacts on both the owner, the animal, and society.

PM Advisor Calls for Disbanding Security Agency

PM Advisor Calls for Disbanding Security Agency
10h ago Khaosod

Prime Minister's advisor Wan Muhamad Nor Matha, former parliamentary speaker, has openly criticized the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Center (SBPAC), expressing frustration that it should be dissolved rather than merely have its budget reduced. He contends the agency duplicates efforts of other security organizations, inefficiently draws personnel across units, squanders resources, and produces no tangible results. The most striking example is a military weapons incident involving an attack on Kamalshakdi Liwaemor, a Narathiwat MP from the Prachachon Party. This is not an accusation, Matha emphasized, but established fact: the perpetrator was SBPAC personnel, the weapons were SBPAC's, and the vehicle was SBPAC's—making denial of responsibility untenable. Credit goes to Prachachon Party, particularly Colonel Tawi Sodsong, for tracking this case from the beginning, revealing how the vehicle was dismantled and uncovering SBPAC weapons involvement, leading to warrants for senior officers. The investigation now depends on identifying those who gave orders and clarifying motives. Matha suggested unemployment as a cause for misconduct, raising questions about whether SBPAC truly lacks work. Recent budget figures reveal SBPAC's 2025 allocation of 5.7 billion baht includes only 44.3 million for salaries of 200 staff, with 92.6%—over 5.3 billion baht—hidden in other expense categories. Similarly, the 4.3 billion baht budget for southern unrest prevention includes 4.3 billion in other expenses, with 2.3 billion for personnel contracting and 299 million for government efficiency improvements, despite established agencies like the Fourth Army Region and provincial administration holding direct responsibility. This raises legitimate questions about SBPAC's continued necessity, especially during fiscal constraints requiring 400 billion baht in borrowing with unknown future needs. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin must carefully examine whether perpetually funding this 5-billion-baht organization under the guise of national institution is justifiable. Citizens deserve scrutiny of this spending.

Former Parliamentary Speaker Calls For Dissolution Of Security Agency
10h ago Khaosod

A proposal to dissolve the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) by Wan Muhamad Noor Matha, former parliamentary speaker and current advisor to the Democrat Party and Prime Minister, has triggered considerable pushback. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul rushed to clarify his position, insisting that ISOC cannot be disbanded due to its long historical significance to Thailand.

The controversy began during a budget committee meeting where Wan Noor criticized ISOC's operations, saying its mandate was unclear, its budget excessive, and its work duplicated other agencies' efforts. He questioned what distinctive accomplishments ISOC has achieved, noting that the only notable action in recent months was the shooting of a member of parliament.

Wan Noor challenged whether shooting lawmakers should fall under ISOC's purview, pointing out that arrests have been made and cases are proceeding through courts using ISOC vehicles, weapons, and personnel. He characterized the shooting incident involving MP Kamlak Leewamao as a deeply troubling reflection of ISOC's actual performance.

Wan Noor also noted that when he asked southern MPs what they feared most, they cited ISOC itself—a concerning revelation given that even parliamentarians are being shot. He questioned what security citizens could expect under such circumstances.

The call for ISOC's dissolution stems not merely from frustration over an MP being targeted, but from broader concerns about the incident's devastating impact on public morale across three southern provinces. Numerous mysterious shootings have occurred in the region, with suspicions that they may involve covert government units rather than southern insurgent groups.

The involvement of former naval officers, rangers, active military personnel, and ISOC officials—along with ISOC vehicles and government-issued weapons—deepens suspicions about the true nature of violence in the south. Questions persist about who is actually responsible and whether there is deliberate interest in perpetuating the conflict.

The southern border security landscape already includes the Fourth Army Region, Region 9 Police, the Border Patrol Police, and various other agencies. Critics question ISOC's distinct role, whether it merely duplicates other units, and whether its vague mandate allows it to operate with impunity and without accountability.

ISOC, formally the Internal Security Operations Command, was established in 2508 (1965) during the Cold War era to combat communism. Although communism has long ceased to be a threat, the agency continues covert operations. Its name itself suggests a focus on internal security—essentially targeting threats from within the nation itself.

The MP shooting incident, involving ISOC personnel, vehicles, and weapons, underscores dangerous hidden operations by certain agencies, making calls for ISOC's dissolution increasingly understandable.

Thailand's Cannabis Loophole Demands Urgent Action

Thailand's cannabis decriminalization has created a regulatory vacuum enabling widespread smuggling to neighboring countries and rising psychiatric cases, prompting urgent calls for comprehensive control laws.

Thailand's Cannabis Loophole Demands Urgent Action
10h ago Khaosod

Thailand's 2565 cannabis decriminalization policy was promoted as an opportunity to generate farm income and advance medical cannabis and the national economy. However, after more than four years, Thai society faces not just opportunity but critical questions about why cannabis was deregulated before proper control laws were in place.

Opposition lawmakers cite large numbers of arrests for illegal cannabis smuggling to Hong Kong, Poland, Germany, and Indonesia, pointing out that Thailand is being viewed internationally as a source of illegal cannabis. Customs officials report thousands of smuggling cases worth billions of baht in damages, reflecting that this problem extends beyond domestic concerns and has begun damaging Thailand's international image and credibility.

Equally troubling are impacts on public health. Psychiatric patient numbers related to cannabis use have surged since decriminalization. While the figures involve multiple factors and cannot conclusively attribute all cases to cannabis, they signal a warning the state cannot ignore. Easier access to cannabis must come with stronger public protection and prevention measures.

To this day, Thailand has regulatory gaps across age restrictions, sales controls, advertising oversight, production tracking, and supply chain verification. The state cannot accurately determine how much cannabis is produced domestically, how much is used medically, or how much leaks outside the system, creating opportunities for exploitation that impacts society, the economy, and foreign relations.

The government must not treat this as political gamesmanship between opposition and administration, but as a national priority requiring urgent action. In the short term, strengthen enforcement against cannabis and drug smuggling, coordinate all relevant agencies, and prosecute offenders decisively. Long-term, expedite comprehensive cannabis control legislation covering production, possession, sales, advertising, age restrictions, and verifiable supply chain tracking at every step.

After four years since decriminalization, the government's duty extends beyond enforcing existing laws to urgently completing new cannabis control legislation, ensuring Thailand has complete regulatory systems that balance medical benefits, economic gains, and public safety.
