Doctor Faces Backlash After Emotional Phone Call with Official
A Bangkok doctor facing complaints of abusive behavior toward low-income insurance patients broke down during a recorded call with health officials, expressing plans to leave medicine and become a monk due to stress over the allegations.
On September 4, 2025, a doctor working in the Khlong Samwa clinic area, colloquially known as the outspoken doctor, faced complaints about abusive and discriminatory behavior toward patients using the 30-baht health insurance scheme. Recently, a video clip of a phone call between the doctor and Dr. Thanakrit Jittraareerattana, chair of the National Health Security Office's complaints committee, was shared on social media by the page Jem Moy V Plus. In parts of the conversation, the doctor became emotional and began crying, stating that he is now severely stressed and unable to sleep, that he has sacrificed sleep to care for patients but now faces this situation, and that he intends to leave the medical profession and become a monk for life.
