Thai Tourist Says No Hard Feelings Over Search Case Drama
7 Aug Khaosod

Thai tourist Wanjai has clarified his role in the case of missing tourist Hulun Solo, saying he holds no ill will toward anyone involved despite online drama and misunderstandings. He appeared at a "PD IDOL 2026" awards event and expressed relief that Hulun's remains have been returned to Thailand, noting that the forensic institute has completed its work and the body will be sent to Nakhon Ratchasima province tomorrow. Wanjai said he continues to communicate almost daily with Hulun's family and brother Moss, offering emotional support and assistance with funeral arrangements.

Regarding the autopsy results and items found with the body, Wanjai said he prefers to wait for official statements from relevant authorities rather than speculate. He emphasized that his role was simply to help as a fellow traveler and to provide ongoing support to the family. "I did my part in helping search, and now that other details are in the hands of officials and experts, I focus on checking on the family's emotional well-being and funeral preparations," he said.

When asked about items Hulun had with him, Wanjai cautioned against spreading unverified claims, saying "We don't know the details yet, so it's better to wait and hear from officials rather than guess and get things wrong." He confirmed he speaks with Moss daily about any way he can help, including emotional support for family members and coordination of funeral logistics. Wanjai said if he can clear his schedule, he plans to attend the funeral service.

6 Aug Khaosod

The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts heavy rainfall across Thailand over the next 24 hours, with particularly intense downpours expected in the northern, northeastern, and eastern regions. A monsoon trough is moving through the upper northern and northeastern areas, combining with a strong southwestern monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution due to risks of sudden flooding and flash floods, particularly in foothill areas and low-lying zones near water drainage routes. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand are expected to reach 2–3 meters, exceeding 3 meters in thunderstorm zones. Fishermen are advised to navigate carefully and avoid areas with thunderstorms, while small boats should remain ashore. Typhoon Dolphin, currently in the Pacific Ocean, is forecast to pass through Okinawa, Japan, on August 6–7 and is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang Province, China, on August 9–10, with no direct impact on Thailand. Regional weather forecasts show thunderstorms covering 60–70 percent of areas across northern, northeastern, central, and eastern zones, with temperatures ranging from 22–36 degrees Celsius and southwesterly winds at 10–40 km/h depending on region.

Chiang Mai Hotpot Diner Finds Cockroach in Broth

A Chiang Mai diner discovered a cockroach in their hotpot broth, but the restaurant's offer of a 10% discount sparked backlash on social media over inadequate accountability and poor crisis management.

Chiang Mai Hotpot Diner Finds Cockroach in Broth
6 Aug Khaosod

A Facebook user in the Chiang Mai province group posted an account of finding a cockroach in the broth at a hotpot restaurant in Chiang Mai, triggering criticism over the establishment's food safety standards and crisis response. After discovering the insect in the soup pot, the customer informed staff, who apologized and offered a 10% discount on the meal. However, the customer argued that the core issue was not the discount amount but the lack of genuine accountability and meaningful communication from management, which would have been more important in rebuilding customer trust. The customer compared this incident to an experience at another restaurant where management fully refunded the bill and handled the situation more responsibly, suggesting that the hotpot restaurant's response fell short of consumer expectations. Following the post's spread on social media, numerous users commented expressing concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness standards and criticizing the 10% discount as inadequate for such a serious hygiene breach, calling instead for more comprehensive remedies and clearer communication in such cases. Meanwhile, some users attempted to identify the restaurant, though the original poster has not revealed the name or location of the establishment. To date, no statement has been issued by the restaurant mentioned in the complaint.
