Environment Inspections Clear Bangkok Data Center on Noise and Wastewater
Environmental inspections at a Bangkok data center found noise and wastewater levels within legal standards, with results supporting the government's effort to balance digital economy growth with community protection.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchat Chomklin has ordered the Pollution Control Department, in coordination with Bangkok, to conduct comprehensive environmental measurements and impact assessments of data center operations, in line with government policy and Bangkok guidelines to protect residents and surrounding areas. The first inspection was conducted at Telehaus (Thailand) Limited in the Huay Khwang district.
Pollution Control Department Director-General Dr. Surin Vorakitdhamnrung revealed that inspections were carried out on September 21-22, 2569, covering noise, air pollution, wastewater, and heat to analyze the data center's operational impacts.
Noise measurements taken at a nearby residential location showed a 24-hour average level of 61.5 decibels (within the legal standard of 70 decibels), a peak level of 77.6 decibels (within the legal standard of 115 decibels), and noise interference of 2.3–6.1 decibels (within the legal standard of 10 decibels).
Wastewater samples showed no oil contamination, no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), no explosive or fire risk levels (LEL), and no hydrogen sulfide gas. Advanced chemical analysis results are pending within 7–14 days.
Thermal imaging found that external temperatures were unaffected by operations, with ambient temperatures comparable to normal atmospheric levels.
The Pollution Control Department will use these findings to develop guidelines and protective measures for data center operations, oversee compliance, and coordinate with Bangkok and relevant agencies to raise standards for data center operations while ensuring public quality of life amid digital economy growth.
