Ex-Spokesperson Urges PM to Fill Interior Ministry Posts on Merit
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, 2025, Praompong Nopruthi, former spokesperson for Thai for Thai party, stated that Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has signaled possible reshuffles of high-ranking Interior Ministry officials, pledging to reset the ministry with work as the primary focus and no protection for wrongdoers. Praompong agreed with this stance and emphasized that improving the ministry should be measured by transparency, efficiency, and tangible results for citizens—not merely rotating positions like musical chairs.

Regarding the discovery of irregularities in local government civil service exam scores affecting over 5,000 candidates, Praompong called for swift fact-checking and straightforward legal action without exception, regardless of a suspect's rank. He stressed that transparency is the heart of good governance and essential to restoring public trust in the civil service.

Praompong proposed elevating provincial governors to serve as economic commanders for their regions, tasked with coordinating all sectors, creating jobs, attracting investment, and addressing cost-of-living pressures. Citizens expect to see tangible improvements in daily life, including faster service delivery, reduced bureaucratic steps, efficient disaster management, serious drug suppression with action against major trafficking networks, and innovation-driven grassroots economic development.

He also renewed the perennial call for decentralized authority, allowing provinces to elect their own governors rather than having the central government appoint them. Praompong noted that appointed officials nearing retirement often lack urgency in driving provincial development according to government policy.

On cabinet reshuffle rumors, while the Prime Minister has denied imminent changes, Praompong stopped short of predicting specifics. He reflected that public surveys consistently show citizens want leadership based on merit, whole-of-government coordination, solutions to living costs, energy price relief, anti-corruption action, and restored economic confidence. These, he said, are major challenges the Prime Minister must heed to avoid disappointing the people.

YouTuber Hlun Solo's Family Denies Fundraising Claims
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, Klose Mos, brother of the late YouTuber Hlun Solo who died in Georgia, posted a statement on behalf of the family to clarify several points and prevent misinformation circulating on social media.

Regarding the timeline of contacting the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the family corrected reports claiming they reported the matter on July 19. The actual date of formal notification to the relevant authorities was July 27, 2569.

The family also firmly confirmed they have never opened a donation account and have not authorized any person or organization to collect donations in their name. They warned the public to be cautious of anyone claiming to fundraise using the case and urged people not to believe such claims.

The family stated their sole intention is to bring their brother home to Thailand honorably, follow the facts, and ensure justice is served. They emphasized they do not want this tragedy exploited for personal gain or donations, and that using this loss as a fundraising channel was never their intention.

Currently, relevant agencies and the family's insurance company are assisting with repatriation procedures. The family has given limited interviews—only to one program—to communicate accurate information and reduce misinformation, but some details have still been misreported.

The family has not yet focused on inheritance or property matters, as their priority is bringing their brother's remains back to Thailand and following the investigation and autopsy results from competent authorities to determine the official cause of death.

No official autopsy has been conducted yet, and there have been no recent updates from the embassy. The family will announce any confirmed developments from responsible agencies through their own channels.

The family thanked all government agencies, the embassy, officials, media, and the public for their support and cooperation. They requested that unverified information not be shared to allow proper investigation and honor the deceased and his family.

PM Vows No Leniency in Five-Murder Case
1 Aug Khaosod

Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul declared on August 1 at Thai Ruam house in Suphan Buri that the government will pursue the five-murder case without leniency, ordering police to keep suspects in custody while requesting the Office of the Attorney General to expedite proceedings and ensure maximum penalties. He stated that while the public desires execution, the courts alone decide punishment, and he will travel to Chachoengsao to stress the urgency of thorough and accurate investigation. Anuthin noted that one suspect allegedly wore a police badge to intimidate victims and demanded police investigate how such crimes could occur, emphasizing the case has damaged Thailand's international image beyond merely alarming the public.

The Prime Minister explained that although suspects were released after serving prior sentences, repeated serious offenses like murder warrant severe punishment under existing legal processes. He stressed the need to expedite both the criminal investigation and victim repatriation, particularly since the deceased include foreign nationals whose families are in Thailand. Anuthin pledged to provide maximum assistance to the victims' families and vowed to restore international confidence that such incidents will not happen again.

When asked about coordinating with the Tourism and Sports Ministry, he said all agencies must work together to maintain tourism promotion and safety standards. On the suspects' alleged use of a police badge to threaten and harm victims, Anuthin demanded police expand their investigation to determine how such impersonation occurred. He concluded: "I assure you I will never let this go. I will ensure they face justice proportionate to their crimes—not just two deaths, but five. The public's thoughts are my thoughts, but as Prime Minister I must ensure everything is handled properly."

Two Men Remanded in Five-Murder Case in Chonburi
1 Aug Khaosod

On August 1, police from Huai Yai Station in Chonburi escorted suspects Thanat "Pong" Kaetthong and Thangchai "Thang" Srinil from the holding cell to Pattaya Provincial Court to seek their remand on charges of premeditated murder and concealment of five bodies.

Pong remained calm and silent during the escort, avoiding media questions and keeping his head down, though visible bruising was observed around his left eye. He did not explain his motive or apologize to the victims' families.

Thang appeared tense and kept his head down while walking to the police van. However, when he heard the voices of victims' relatives he recognized, he looked up and offered an apology, claiming he did not know the victims were a family and that he had been forced by Pong under threat to his own family's safety.

Victims' relatives who arrived to monitor the remand hearing expressed frustration, with many crying and demanding answers about why a father, mother, and child were killed. The family disputed media reports linking the victims to drug use, stating the female victim had reformed after serving a previous sentence and was running a legitimate pig farm and trading business. They confirmed the family had taken out daily loans to cover living expenses and their daughter's university fees, but the debt was manageable and being repaid regularly. They also stated they had never had major conflicts with Pong and rarely saw him in the area.

Succompsit Missachan, president of the Pattaya Bar Association, attended the police station to oversee the interrogation in accordance with law. He confirmed this is a serious criminal case carrying a potential death penalty, requiring lawyer participation under the Criminal Procedure Code Section 134/1. Both suspects have confessed during questioning, though details cannot yet be disclosed to protect the case. Regarding Pong's claim of mental illness, Missachan stated medical examination and expert confirmation would be necessary before the court determines whether it affects criminal liability.

Ex-Girlfriend: Murder Suspect Forced Her Into Grave, Threatened Death
1 Aug Khaosod

A woman claiming to be a former girlfriend of a suspect linked to the killings of five people has alleged that he repeatedly abused and threatened her, once forcing her to lie inside a freshly dug grave while threatening to bury her alive. The allegations were published by the Facebook page Sor Pao – Rueang Nee Tong Sai Jai, which shared messages said to have been exchanged with the woman, along with documents showing that she had filed a police report.

The woman claimed she previously dated and lived closely with a man identified as "Pong," one of the suspects in the killings of two Russian siblings whose bodies were found buried in Chonburi. Police said Pong and another suspect, identified as "Thong," later confessed to killing a family of three in June and burying their bodies near the location where the Russian siblings were found.

According to the woman, Pong controlled, threatened and physically assaulted her on several occasions, leaving her constantly fearful for her safety. She alleged that he was fascinated by violence and regularly forced her to watch videos involving murder cases and simulated attacks. She also claimed he had previously told her about killing and burying other people in incidents separate from the two cases currently under investigation.

The woman described one incident in which Pong allegedly dug a hole and ordered her to lie inside it before threatening to bury her alive "like the others." She said she cried and pleaded for her life before he eventually allowed her to leave the hole.

The woman claimed the threats and harassment continued after the incident but said she had been afraid to speak publicly because she believed people might not trust her and feared that doing so could place her in further danger. She has now filed a police report to document her allegations and said she is willing to provide investigators with further information or testify as a witness if her evidence could assist investigations in Chonburi or nearby provinces.

The claims have not been independently verified, and police have not publicly confirmed whether they are investigating the additional alleged incidents described by the woman.
