Ex-Subdistrict Official Dies With Head Wound On Highway

A former deputy subdistrict chief was found dead with a severe head wound beside his motorcycle on a highway in Chumphon. At approximately 03:10 on October 8, 2026, police in Sawi, Chumphon, received a report of an overturned motorcycle on Asia Highway 41 at kilometer marker 25+600, Moo 3, Khon subdistrict. Rescue volunteers from Sai Chon Chumphon, Sawi sector, and doctors from Sawi Hospital were immediately dispatched. The victim, identified as 54‑year‑old Saiyan (surname withheld), former deputy mayor of Wisai Tai Subdistrict Organization, was found on the roadside shoulder with a massive head injury that had scattered brain matter. A locally made short‑barrel shotgun lay beneath his body, with a spent shell still lodged in the firing chamber that could not be removed. Nearby lay his red Honda Scoopy i motorcycle, overturned and showing damage on the left side. Initial examination revealed the victim’s head wound was severe, with brains spread across the ground, and the shotgun was found resting on top of him. Forensic officers seized the weapon as key evidence, though they could not yet determine if the gun was involved in the death. The victim’s relatives said he had been returning home from a funeral ceremony held about 300 meters from the scene, riding the same motorcycle. He had previously served as deputy mayor of Wisai Tai and was known as a quiet, good‑natured man with no known conflicts. Investigators from Sawi Police Station said they are gathering evidence, sending the body for autopsy, and examining the wound and bullet trajectory together with medical experts to determine whether the injury relates to the recovered shotgun and, if so, whether the shot came from the victim’s own weapon or another person. The body has been sent to the forensic pathology department at Ranong Provincial Hospital for a detailed examination to establish the exact cause of death before being returned to his hometown for religious rites.

EC Official Seeks Supreme Court Review for Direct Graft Cases

Former Election Commission member Somchai Srisuthiyakorn and a group of reserve senators petitioned Thailand’s Supreme Court to overturn a previous Appeals Court ruling that blocks citizens from filing direct corruption complaints against the Election Commission. They argue the ruling forces complainants to go through the National Anti‑Corruption Commission and the Attorney General’s Office, a process that can exceed three years, and cite irregularities in the 2024 senatorial election as further justification. The senators urged the Supreme Court to review the decision and to investigate the former Appeals Court president for possible misconduct.
