Family Moves Cursed Takian Wood to Temple After Misfortunes
A family in Buriram province moved a large Takian log to a temple after experiencing a series of accidents and illnesses they attributed to keeping the sacred wood at home without proper ritual offerings. A ceremony was held to ask forgiveness before the log was relocated to Wat Suwannaram with help from community leaders.
A family in Buriram's Nang Rong district brought a large Takian log home from a canal dredging project in 2023. The husband, a collector of old wood, found the log unusually light to carry. After placing it at their house, a sacred fig tree sprouted from it. The husband intended to tie a seven-colored cloth around it as an offering but never did. Over the next three years, the family experienced a string of misfortunes: their son had a motorcycle accident in another province; in 2024, the wife's truck overturned while hauling rice; and the husband fell critically ill with intestinal obstruction requiring surgery. The wife, Lamun, believes the misfortunes are linked to the unblessed Takian log. A local spiritual advisor had previously warned them to keep such items at a temple. After consulting the abbot of Wat Suwannaram, the family organized a ceremony with offerings to ask forgiveness, then moved the log and the fig tree to the temple. Village leaders and a municipal council member assisted in the relocation, hoping the family's bad luck has ended.
