Fishing Boat Sinks, Three Dead and Four Missing

A grieving family received the body of the captain of the fishing vessel S. Kanjanawaree 888 after it sank at sea. Fifteen survivors are returning to Samet Channel, two more bodies remain on the vessel, and rescue teams are urgently searching for four missing people.

On September 22, rescue efforts continued after the fishing boat sank in the Samet Channel area off Sattahip District, Chon Buri, approximately 40 nautical miles from Lam Pu Chao Peak. With 22 crew members aboard, 15 survivors have been rescued so far, 3 confirmed dead, and 4 still missing. The navy and local fishing boats continue intensive search operations.

By 2 p.m., Nathawut Anuyotha, the district chief of Sattahip, and relevant agencies from Naval Area 1 arrived to closely oversee the search and rescue mission. Fishing vessels participating in the search successfully brought one body ashore—identified as Wichai Mayang, 46, the captain of S. Kanjanawaree 888. His body was returned to Samet Channel in Sattahip District, Chon Buri, amid deep sorrow from his family.

All 15 survivors are being transported back to shore at Samet Channel by fishing boats. The captain's wife and daughter have arrived to receive his body. Some families of foreign crew members are also waiting and monitoring the search closely.

Two additional bodies remain on the vessel and have not yet been recovered due to strong waves in the area. Four people are still missing, with rescue teams continuing their intensive search efforts.

Naval Area 1 has deployed patrol vessel T.112, along with an S-70B Seahawk helicopter and naval personnel, to support the search operation and coordinate with nearby fishing boats to locate the four missing people.

Rescue teams and relevant agencies continue their full-scale search for all four missing persons despite rough seas. The cause of the sinking remains under investigation.
