Five-Vehicle Pile-Up on Express Highway Injures Eight
Eight people, including three British tourists, were injured when five vehicles collided on the Kanchanaphisek Express Highway in Samut Prakan on September 16, after a van braked suddenly and triggered a chain-reaction pile-up.
A major multi-vehicle collision erupted on the Kanchanaphisek Express Highway at 9:15 a.m. on September 16, 2569, when emergency dispatch received reports of a serious crash with multiple injuries. The accident occurred on the Bangkok-bound lane at kilometer 8+950 in Bang Thaeparak subdistrict, Mueang Samut Prakan district. Rescue teams from Ruam Katanyu Foundation and Thai Motorway Management staff responded immediately.
Investigators found five vehicles involved in the collision on the rightmost lane: three passenger vans, one private sedan, and one pickup truck. Multiple vehicles sustained severe damage, particularly a tourist van with frontal collision marks and a pickup truck with its rear crushed. Eight people were injured overall, including three British tourists who had just finished a golf outing and were en route to the airport to return home. Two of the tourists suffered head lacerations, while the third had a laceration under the chin. The remaining five injured passengers experienced chest tightness and received first aid before transport to nearby hospitals.
Thongchai, 53, a pickup truck driver heading to teach tennis in Lad Krabang, reported that a van ahead braked suddenly. He managed to stop and activate his emergency lights, but a van behind him traveling at speed failed to brake and struck his truck hard, which then slid into the vehicle ahead.
A 35-year-old passenger named Je explained that he was traveling to Chachoengsao when he saw the vehicle ahead brake and activate emergency lights. He stopped in time with his emergency lights on, but his car—the third in line—was suddenly struck from behind.
A 50-year-old van driver named Mol stated he was transporting golf tourists to the airport for their return flight when the front vehicle braked. He could not stop in time on the right lane, resulting in the collision.
Emergency responders provided immediate first aid and transported all injured parties to hospitals. Highway officials moved the damaged vehicles off the roadway and coordinated with police to review CCTV footage and collect evidence to determine the cause and pursue legal action.
